Ahead Friday is the annual KTVN Share Your Christmas Drive-By Food Drive held locally at the Governor's Mansion and at Minden's Carson Valley Inn. It is also the 6th annual Project Empty Bowls at Carson Mall, which has become a local soup for the soul favorite stop.

Final weekend: Tiffani and Bailee's sixth Sealed Toy Drive collection winds down Sunday

A local Christmas toy drive that began six years ago by a Carson City woman dying of cancer continues through this weekend, ending Sunday as part of her last wishes the drive continue after her death.

Beginning Tuesday, Nov. 27 until Dec. 11, 2018 Home Instead Senior Care and Center for Healthy Aging have set up their trees, and placed the tags for our seniors.

These are seniors, who are in homes, and have no one to celebrate the holidays with. Our community from Carson City to Dayton and in between have been absolutely wonderful by getting a tag, and filling the wishes for our Seniors here.

We have trees set up at Dayton Smith's, Paradise Salon, Les Schwab and United Federal Credit Union (off of Topsy), and AAA.

Tiffani Barber was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer on Dec. 8, 2012. For those of you who didn't know Tiffani, all she ever wanted to do was help people.

So it was no surprise to those closest to her that when the social worker assigned to her case asked her what she needed, Tiffani replied with, "How can I help?"

Twisted Scizzors Salon continues to host Kutz for Heroes. Saturday had a great turnout with support from Adam Laxalt, many local vendors and veteran services.

The salon will provide free haircuts for veterans, activity duty and first responders, plus they can find help locating available services. Event runs through 3 p.m. today, Sunday, November 4.

Twisted Scizzors hair salon in Carson City to host weekend 'Kutz for Heroes' event

Twisted Scizzors Hair Salon in Carson City will hold its “Kutz for Heroes” this Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 3-4.

The salon will provide free haircuts for veterans, activity duty and first responders. Proceeds to benefit Red, White and Blue Dog Tags.

The Saturday, Nov. 3 event is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be a 9 a.m. grand opening ceremony with Color Guard. Shelby Jackson will perform the National Anthem.

My loving sister, Susie Bongers, who moved to Carson City from Vietnam in February of 1973, attended Carson City schools until graduating from Carson High School in 1986, works with her mother and sister at MJ Beauty Salon, has been diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme, the mother of all brain cancers.
