Carson City Turkey Trot 2019 nears with last minute registration, packet pick-up

Before the football games, the big meal, the parades and the pies, why not get in a little exercise with a few hundred of your Carson City area neighbors and friends?

The sixth annual Thanksgiving Day Carson City Turkey Trot is an event the entire family will enjoy and, for many families, it has become as much of a Thanksgiving Day tradition as the big meal itself.

Events around Carson City for Thursday, Nov. 21

Partly sunny skies and cool temperatures are expected Thursday with a warmup in time for the weekend. Events ahead around the capital city include a meeting of the Board of Supervisors, a discussion on holiday stress and dementia offered by Carson Tahoe Expressions Memory Care, and an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered. Also ahead, Carson City's GOP will host a discussion with several political leaders representing the capital city. There will be a 'Glorious Expanse' artist reception at WNC Gallery, plus library activities and more.

Carson City's Polar Express brings a bit of Magic and Christmas Spirit to the Historic Rails

During the cold winter months in a pocket of the capital city, a bit of magic is sprinkled about on the historic rail that once transported gold from Virginia City to the mint in Carson City, but now transports elves, hot cocoa, and silver bells for a few special weeks each year.

The Polar Express rolled into town on Nov. 15 with the help of the historic V&T Railway Commission, and with it, a certain jolly old man and his magical helpers.

Coming Soon to the Capital City: “Good Day Carson” TV Launches December 2nd

The National Grassroots Broadcasting Network (NGBN) and it’s flagship affiliate NGBN Carson City TV are proud to announce the launch of Carson City's first ever five day-a-week morning TV show.

The show titled, Good Day Carson, is the next project for the NGBN Carson City TV Platform, which aims to produce quality, community-focused content to areas often overshadowed by larger markets. This is the case with nearby Reno; yet, many consider Carson City too small to stand on its own. But the producers of Good Day Carson think differently.

Man booked on felony charges after leading deputies on chase, claims he's escaped police three times before

After leading deputies from multiple agencies on a chase through Carson City and into Washoe Valley Friday evening, a 26-year-old Carson City man was arrested at gun point after crashing a vehicle and running across the I-580 on foot.

Carson City deputies arrest multiple suspects in unrelated burglary crimes

A 34-year-old Carson City man was arrested in the 3000 block of Thurman Circle early Thursday morning on nine counts including felony possession of stolen property, ex-felon in possession of a firearm, and six counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition, two other people were arrested in connection with this incident for obstruction after allegedly telling deputies the man wasn’t at home.

Carson City area weather: Brisk cool down ahead through much of the week

As the last Nevada Day event on Saturday was winding down, the pleasantly warm weather the Carson City region has been experiencing for several days seems to have gone the way of the setting sun.

While sunshine remains in the fold Sunday and through much of the week, daytime high temperatures will be around 20 to 25 degrees cooler than what the region has, for days, been experiencing, according to the National Weather Service.

Sierra Lutheran High School's Andreas Gilson (Junior) ran a personal best 5K in Rocklin, California of 17:55 against a loaded field at the Bella Vista Bronco Invitational on Saturday he finished 31st.

Junior Jacob Tack ran 20:16, good for 91st place, he was followed by Sophomore Aaron Waite who covered the scenic wooded course in 20:55 (105th), and Freshman Flynn Scheibe was 119th in 22:10. In the girls race three young Falcons flew through the rolling course in tight formation.

Carson City pair jailed, allegedly growing over 50 pounds of marijuana next to school

Two Carson City residents were arrested in the 1100 block of Fremont Street for alleged cultivation of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance for sale, trafficking marijuana, and cultivation of concentrated marijuana, all felony charges.
