The first Saturday of the month always plays host to the Downtown Carson City Wine Walk, but with the Jazz and Beyond Musical Festival in full swing, you’ll have even more reasons to meander around downtown. The afternoon ice cream social at the historic Foreman-Roberts House is a perfect family-friendly treat before heading to the Brewery Arts Center for tonight’s free concert. Carson City Off-Road sponsored by Epic Rides has taken over downtown with everything mountain bike and plays host to a free Music Festival in McFadden Plaza. Don’t miss Arts and Culture Day at the Nevada State Railroad Museum with unlimited rides on the Steam Train, special vendors, and more. Stewart Indian School will be a hotspot of activity with the annual Fathers’ Day PowWow underway. This is just the tip of the iceberg, read on for more fun than you’ll know what to do with.

It’s going to be a breezy weekend, so you may want to rethink spending the day at the lake. Luckily, plenty of options are available just about anywhere you are. Carson City has a car show and Brewfest hitting the downtown corridor, and to the south, Minden and Gardnerville are having their party of the year: Carson Valley Days. It’s World Doll Day at the Nevada State Museum with special displays, activities, and a special performance by the local Young Chautauquans.

Double-amputee joins Mission Senior Living team for Reno-Tahoe Odyssey

At the start of the 14th Annual Reno-Tahoe Odyssey Relay Run Adventure on Friday in Wingfield Park, Jonah Vandever will join runners scheduled for the 7:30 a.m. start time. Only the 20-year-old double amputee won’t be running, he’ll be hand-cycling.

Wildfire Awareness Run raises $5,800 for families of firefighters

Participants in the annual Battle Born Trail Series: Fire Up for Firefighters Multi-Hour Event in Washoe County raised $5,823.40 for the Nevada Local Assistance State Team Program, also known as Nevada LAST.

It’s going to be a chili weekend, and that has nothing to do with the weather. The annual Chili on the Comstock Competition takes over the tiny town of Virginia City, including a saloon crawl Saturday and the hilarious ‘Fun with the Runs’ 5K. Families will have a hard time choosing between the Cops and Kids Open House and Safety Fair at the Sheriff’s Office and the ‘Kids to Parks’ Day activities at Silver Saddle Ranch. After back to back three-day weekends, this one may feel a little short. Grab onto the hours allotted and have a good time. The monthly downtown wine walk is a great way to catch up with friends after the bustle of the holiday season. The annual Be Bold, Run in the Cold Winter Trail Series offers the Winter Round-up 5 or 10K. If staying active is a resolution, then a brisk run in our hills fits the bill. For something less strenuous, you can join our Parks and Recreation Department for a Winter Wonderland Walk along the Carson River.

A very happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Because of the holiday, just about everywhere will be closed with the exception of casinos and a few grocery stores with limited hours. Earn yourself a second helping of pie by participating in the annual Turkey Trot. In Carson City, you’ll start the 5K or 8K run at the Governor’s Mansion on Mountain Street. If you’re in the Carson Valley, head to Minden Park for their inaugural 5K.

Welcome to the weekend, Carson City. Now that we are in November, thoughts turn to the holiday season. That means craft fairs. St. Paul’s Lutheran Family on Saliman welcomes you to their annual Craftique Open House. You’ll find the Young at Heart Seniors Club hosting a faire at the Douglas County Community Center. The Carson Nugget’s Sierra Room will be home to several artisans, vendors, and crafters during today’s wine walk. There’s quite a bit more, and plenty that doesn’t involve shopping, so take a look and have a great time.

Sierra Lutheran cross country team competes in Folsom; Marchegger places 2nd

The Sierra Lutheran Cross Country Team traveled to Folsom, California for the Bella Vista Bronco Invitational on Saturday, Oc. 14. The weather was clear and cool with a touch of humidity. The course of 3.1 miles winds across a grass field, semi-hard packed dirt trails and gravel roads through Willow Hills Cross Country Course at the Willow Hills Reservoir.

Leaves turning, wind blowing, and all things pumpkin sprouting up everywhere. It is absolutely autumn in Northern Nevada. Get ready for Halloween with your choice of pumpkin patches. Seeliger Elementary School is hosting theirs for the twenty-fifth year in a row. Take a trip on the V and T Steam Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum, actually take several trips. The annual Harvest Train event offers an all-day wristband that allows for as many rides as you’d like, in addition to museum admission. So many more fun activities are available to you, you’ll have to read on to see them all.

Sierra Lutheran Cross Country team attends meet in Idaho

The Sierra Lutheran High School Cross Country team team attended the 2017 Bob Firman Invitational Cross Country Meet in Boise, Idaho this past weekend for the first time. The meet is named after Bob Firman, an icon in the XC community who has attended this meet for the past 43 years, handing out the awards.
