The Carson City area is awash in entertainment, shopping, and family-friendly options this weekend. Santa Claus is popping up all over, including at Benson Feed for the annual CASI Pet Photos with St. Nick and aboard the train at our Railroad Museum’s Santa Train. The musical ‘Honk, Jr’ for the young ones and Love/Sick for the older crowd are on the stage at the Brewery Arts Center. Spend the day at the Silver Saddle Ranch: their annual Holiday Open House is the perfect time to explore their trails and learn more about the working ranch’s preservation.

Carson City's hometown roller derby team, the Carson Victory Rollers, went toe-stop to toe-stop with Nevada East in a Nevada Day bout organized to raise money for the victims and families of the Oct. 1 Las Vegas mass shooting.

It’s Nevada Day weekend, and that means the annual parade and festivities will bombard downtown Carson City with thousands of revelers. I made the decision to put all of the parade related events into a separate list for a few reasons: one, this list would be way too long otherwise; two, Halloween fun is plentiful all weekend long; and three, I want my list to be as easy to read as possible. Read on for events throughout Carson City, Carson Valley, Dayton, Silver and Virginia Cities.

The Nevada Day parade, with all of its corresponding events, is my favorite thing that Carson City has to offer. Normally, I would just have the complete listing of everything Saturday has to offer in my weekend event summary, but Parade Day offers a few challenges. Namely, there is just so much going on in downtown Carson City that creating a separate listing seems easiest for all of my readers. Whether it’s the bloody marys, the beard contest, or running into long-lost friends that gets you there, it's going to be a beautiful, sunny day.

Nevada Day weekend arrived Thursday with the 32nd annual Nevada Day Carnival and Celebration at Mills Park in Carson City.

It’s that time again. The Battle Born state celebrates its admission to the United States on the last Friday of October, with the annual Nevada Day parade on Saturday. New this year is a ‘Passport to Downtown’ event on Friday. Also new this year is the one-night-only curated art show, Capital Collage, on Friday night featuring over 20 diverse artists and organizations.

Come out and support Carson Victory Rollers and Carson Junior Victory Rollers as they scrimmage Sunday to raise money for Moms on the Run, a local charity that helps cover everyday living expenses of northern Nevada families enduring hardships caused by a catastrophic circumstance, with a primary focus on assisting individuals with breast and gynecological cancers.

It’s a roller derby kind of day. Catch the Carson Victory Rollers at the Carson City Community Center as they scrimmage to raise funds for Moms on the Run. You’ve still got plenty of pumpkin opportunities with the Nevada Railroad Museum’s Harvest Train or the Corley Ranch Harvest Festival in Gardnerville. It’s a classic whodunnit on the big screen. Leaves turning, wind blowing, and all things pumpkin sprouting up everywhere. It is absolutely autumn in Northern Nevada. Get ready for Halloween with your choice of pumpkin patches. Seeliger Elementary School is hosting theirs for the twenty-fifth year in a row. Take a trip on the V and T Steam Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum, actually take several trips. The annual Harvest Train event offers an all-day wristband that allows for as many rides as you’d like, in addition to museum admission. So many more fun activities are available to you, you’ll have to read on to see them all.

With all the motorcycles on the road, you may be looking for some peace and quiet. Luckily, it’s fee-free day at all of the Nevada State Parks. Load up the kids, pack a picnic, at head to the great outdoors. Don’t miss out on the last-of-the-season Farmers Market at Third and Curry, stock up on local honey and load your basket with yummy stuff. Oktoberfest takes over the McFadden Plaza at 3 p.m. Bavarian and German beers, authentic food, and live music await. Keep reading for everything the area has to offer.

One might think that the end of summer means that the fun times are over: they would be wrong. This list of happenings in the Carson City area isn’t getting any shorter. The annual Genoa Candy Dance is a favorite among locals and visitors alike, and this weekend welcomes the first ever Silver State Arts Festival at Fuji Park, as well. The first ever Community Garage Sale at the Community Center offers one-stop bargain hunting. Swing into the season at the monthly dance party hosted by the High Sierra Swing Dance Club.

Enjoy these September days, it will be blustery and cold before we know it. Celebrate our neighbor to the east during their annual Dayton Valley Days street festival. I’m going to suggest that you keep this weekend’s plans flexible. There’s only a chance of rain, but the chance of it showing up at the wrong time is always high. The very early morning is best spent watching the hot air balloons against the Reno skyline, but you’ll probably want a sweater for the pre-dawn chill. Head up the hill to Virginia City this weekend. Come cheer on both the Junior and Adult teams of Carson Victory Rollers this Sunday as they usher in a new school year and raise money for the Carson City Recreation Division Kid's Klub! See some awesome derby and help this great organization as all the kids head back to school.

It’s back to school and back to work, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. Get your kicks on the dance floor in Carson Lanes’ Eleventh Frame Lounge; DJ Bobby will teach you how to line dance. The Classic Cinema Club presents Edmond O'Brien and Pamela Britton in ‘D.O.A.’ Get there at 6:30 p.m. for discussion and film trivia. For the true trivia junkies, the Fox Brewpub hosts DJ Trivia tonight – all ages are welcome and there are prizes at stake. Halloween lovers of all ages will want to participate in the upcoming production of ‘Nightmare before Christmas’ at Piper’s Opera House.

What to do on a Wednesday? If you travel down this list, you’ll find the new Wheeled Food Wednesdays at the Brewery Arts Center featuring a line-up of local food trucks and family fun. Jazz and Beyond brings you a free outdoor concert with Lake Effect in the Comma Coffee Courtyard. Chris Bayer transforms into Major Ormsby at Dangberg Home Historic Ranch’s Chautauqua tonight. Get on the Highway to the Danger Zone and it will take you to Top Gun on the big screen at Galaxy Theaters.

In the first home bout of the 2017 season, the Carson Junior Victory Rollers hosted California Mayhem junior roller derby team in the early bout Saturday at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Mills Park.

Carson City's home town sports team hosted its first game of the year Saturday at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Mills Park.

The Carson Victory Rollers, a home grown roller derby team organized six years ago, gave their fans in the Nevada state capital a thrill by edging out the Port City Roller Girls, 171-155, in their first home bout of 2017.

If you happen to be up very early on Saturday morning, you may just see some runners in the pre-dawn hours. The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, a 178 mile relay, passes through Carson City on its way to Virginia City. A huge congratulations goes out to the Class of 2017; the Carson High graduates will get their diplomas today. It’s wine walk weekend, so downtown will be hopping with sippers, strollers, and plenty of summer fun. Keep reading, and you’re sure to find something to make this weekend special.

Spring has sprung, but apparently Mother Nature didn’t get the memo. Join the Carson Victory Rollers at the Carson Mall and take part in an indoor wine walk and rummage sale. Help Hot Spot Yoga and Fitness for Life celebrate their grand opening with free classes, health vendors, a 5K run, and more. Hit the dance floor with the High Sierra Swing Dance Club; their monthly dance party is held in the Grand Ballroom of the Brewery Arts Center. They may hit hard on the court, but the Carson Victory Rollers have a soft side, too.

"We're the sweethearts of the leagues around here," said CVR Events Coordinator Crystal Blackeye. "Sometimes they get into it with each other, but the other teams mended their ways because of us and became legit."

Although Sunday's scrimmage fundraiser for Carson Tahoe Health Foundation's Mission Heartbeat program was organized by the Carson Victory Roller adults, the kids played an equally important role in entertaining spectators who came to watch and donate to the cause.

They play rough, but their hearts are in the right place.

On their sleeves.

If everything goes as planned, the sun will finally make an appearance. That’s good news for those running in the Carson High Safe and Sober 5K or in Ascent Runs’ Love Can Be Cold 5/10K at Prison Hill.
