Ceremonies, holiday craft fairs and more: Carson City region set for Veterans Day weekend

Heading into the Veterans Day weekend, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City region over the next four days. Events include live comedy, art and heater, multiple holiday craft fairs around Carson City and Carson Valley as well as several Veterans Day ceremonies and offers of gratitude to vets and active duty members of the U.S. military on Monday. Annual Rock Drilling Competition rocks Nevada Day

Using only a drill bit and a hammer, the annual Rock Drilling Competition wowed and impressed on Nevada Day.

The winner of the competition was awarded to First Place, $2000 – Emmit Hoyl.

The intention of the competition is to attempt to drill the deepest hole possible within ten minutes, with only a steady stream of water to help the drillers excavate.

Washoe County Sheriff's Office finds remains of 20-year-old potential murder victim near Moon Rocks

Washoe County Sheriff’s Office detectives announced today that the remains of missing 20-year-old Kenyon Wilson were located late last week. Detectives say they are treating this case as a homicide investigation and are asking the public for any information that may help to identify and locate a suspect, or suspects.

University of Nevada dormitory explosion rocks Virginia Street

UPDATE 5:00 p.m.: Officials are now calling it a “mechanical failure.” Crews continue to search the wreckage for anyone who may be trapped. All streets within a half mile of the campus are closed. Major damage is being reported at Argenta Hall; however, they believe the building was mostly unoccupied at the time of the explosion.

UPDATE 4:00 p.m.: So far, reports of 8 people were injured and two have been transferred to the hospital. All classes for the rest of the day have been cancelled.
