Nevada State Lands accepts deed making Walker River State Recreation Area an official park

YERINGTON, Nev. – The creation of a new Nevada State Park, known as the Walker River State Recreation Area is official. on Wednesday, July 19, the Nevada Division of State Lands accepted the gift deeds facilitated by the Walker Basin Conservancy, and will assign the donated property to the Nevada Division of State Parks for the development and management of the new park along the East Walker River in Lyon and Mineral counties.

Forest Service continues effort to eliminate invasive plant populations from Lake Tahoe Basin

The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) will continue a project to eradicate, control, and contain known infestations of invasive plants in the Lake Tahoe Basin using chemical treatment. Work will take place at approximately 90 infestations sites (18.25 acres) beginning in mid-July and continuing through September 2017.

Power outage impacts nearly 4,400 customers in Carson City

UPDATE: 7:25PM: Power appears to be fully restored to the Carson City area, NV Energy reports. Equipment failures at multiple locations around the Nevada state capital appear to have been the cause of the widespread outage.

New zip line to go through treetops at South Tahoe this summer

The Silver Rush, a new 4,159-foot long zip line opening this summer at Heavenly's Epic Discovery, will take users from tree-to-tree at speeds up to 40 miles per hour. Overlooking the Carson Valley, Silver Rush is comprised of five segmented zip lines; the final of which flies guests over the waters of East Peak Lake.

The Carson River Watershed "Get on the Bus" tour will cover a variety of watershed topics and locations from the headwaters in Alpine County, CA to the terminus at the Carson Sink near Fallon.

After the flood: Railroad Museum in Carson City to reopen Saturday

The Nevada State Railroad Museum, Carson City will reopen Saturday, March 4, with free weekend admission for all.
The museum has been closed since Jan. 8 due to significant damage from floodwaters that inundated the property, damaging the tracks, fire roads and a number of buildings.

The $5 suggested donation includes four wines and paired appetizers. All proceeds go to the Friends of Saint Mary's for restoration and renovations of our beloved Church.

Silent auction both days, and we will have wine and commemorative wines glasses available for sale.

Widespread cable and internet outage affects Lake Tahoe, Carson Valley customers

UPDATE 10:33 p.m. Most Internet and cable service for customers in the South Lake Tahoe and Carson Valley region has been restored, according to Charter.
The severed fiber optic lines above the railroad tracks at Airport Road in Minden were reconnected one-by-one. According to Charter, there can be thousands of wires in each line.

UPDATE 5:35 pm: Charter Communications estimates their crews will have services restored to the region by 8:00 p.m. Friday night.

This morning, a garbage truck backed into some aerial fiber optic lines in Minden, Nev., causing them to snap in half. The restoration job is normally a 9-10 hour task. The accident occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m., Friday.
