CARSON CITY — For the eighth consecutive month, Nevada has held the fastest rate of new job growth in the nation, according to May 2019 employment figures released Tuesday by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation. Statewide, jobs increased by 4.0 percent, a gain of 55,200 new jobs added since May of last year.

An Americorps National Civilian Community Corps Team, Green Four, will be working with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Mason Valley to mentor children enrolled in its summer program.

During the team’s six week engagement, the seven young adults will serve over 150 children spread between the Yerington, Silver Springs and Dayton Boys and Girls Club sites.

This is my final column on the sad legacy we Boomers are leaving our children.

They also debunked obsessions with income inequality. The third part focused on the 21st Century revival of progressivism and statist liberalism, plus the addition of political correctness (PC).

Carson City Elks Lodge BPO No. 2177 will host a free kids fishing derby this Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Davis Creek Park. The event is for children ages 4 to 12. It runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

CARSON CITY — Returning for the 2019 season, the V&T Railway’s popular Toast of the Canyon train rides kicks off on Saturday, June 15 and will feature area wineries, distilleries and breweries. The event, which runs every other Saturday through October, takes passengers into the Carson River Canyon to enjoy libations and appetizers.

The Carson High School Football team wrapped up their spring practices Thursday with a 7 on 7 match-up with the Fernley Vaqueros. It was a positive showing for the Senators as Quarterback Will Breeding threw four touchdowns to four different receivers.

More than 300 Special Olympics athletes from across the state will converge this weekend in Reno for the annual Special Olympics Nevada (SONV) Summer Games. The torch was carried through Carson City Friday on its way to the games.

Carson High School students not only experienced exciting college, job, and career opportunities outside of school this past week, they were also presented with an explosion of options directly.

Chamber Orchestra Students returned from their successful regional music festival in San Francisco, several CHS students enjoyed job shadowing with Nevada Legislators, and May 21 offered students access to its job and career fair throughout the day.

The Dayton High School Softball team had a season to remember. They ended the season 19-12, with a league record of 11-7 which landed them in fifth place heading into the Regional Tournament in Elko, NV. The season was full of memorable moments, ups and downs, and a very strong finish.

Sierra Lutheran High School sophomore Annalynn Mueller was honored Monday during a surprise ceremony at the school for taking second in the nation in the Fleet Reserve Association’s (FRA) Americanism Essay Contest.

STATELINE, Nev. — The Tahoe Regional Transportation Agency’s Governing Board approved a $50,000 settlement Wednesday with the California Department of Transportation and Stewart Engineering regarding permit violations that occurred on California Highway 89 near Emerald Bay in 2018.
