CARSON CITY — With intersection improvements already scheduled for coming years at two Mt. Rose Highway intersections, the Nevada Department of Transportation will launch a virtual public meeting on Jan. 26 to gather public feedback on corridor planning to define future traffic improvements to the lower segment of the highway.

Notice is hereby given that Carson City will conduct a public meeting and information session on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. (All meetings will be online, please see directions below), in order review the application process for the COIVD-19, CDBG-CV, II & III, State Community Development Block Grant (CDBG-CV) Program and to solicit citizen input on possible activities to be included in the application.

An outside investigator found no policy violations but room for improved communication after reviewing events surrounding a rural Nevada library’s draft diversity statement that drew the county sheriff’s ire and sparked protests and national media attention.

MINDEN — The Douglas County Planning Commission completed its work to review and update the 2020 Master Plan text and published a draft to the Douglas County website for the public to review and comment.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Off-Highway Vehicles Program is pleased to announce that approximately $1 million in grant funding is available for off-highway vehicle (OHV) projects in Nevada.

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is accepting applications from qualified candidates who are interested in appointment to the office of Ward 3 Supervisor by the Board of Supervisors, Pursuant to Art. 2, 2.030(1) of the Carson City Charter.

The COVID-19 Mitigation and Management Task Force met Thursday with seven counties flagged last week for having an elevated risk of transmission of the coronavirus. Based on data provided by the Department of Health and Human Services, six of the seven counties are still meeting at least two of the three criteria, signaling a sustained elevated risk of transmission.

On August 20, 2020, the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Corrective Actions will be opening the public comment period for its Draft Proposed Plan: Operable Unit 8 (OU-8) Peripheral Areas located within the Anaconda Copper Mine Site in Lyon County. The public comment period will remain open through September 19, 2020.

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties meets on the second Thursday of each month. The Coalition’s next public meeting is Thursday, August 13 via Zoom at 9 a.m.

UPDATE 6:23PM: On July 28, 2020 the Douglas County Library Director Amy Dodson and Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley met to discuss the Douglas County Public Library’s proposed statement of diversity. The library board was scheduled to discuss the statement at a public meeting scheduled for July 28, 2020. Sheriff Coverley submitted a written letter for public comment in opposition of the statement.

The next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting will be held Thursday, July 2 beginning at 8:30 a.m. in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street.

On the docket for discussion includes residential building permit allocations for the next four years, new committee members for the Redevelopment Authority Citizens Committee, amendment to the diesel tax and more.

Douglas County Board of County Commissioners will be conducting a Special meetings on May 26 and 27, 2020 to discuss the possible adoption of the FY 2020-21 Final Budgets for Douglas County; Douglas County Redevelopment Agency; the Towns of Gardnerville, Genoa, and Minden; and the Tahoe-Douglas Transportation District.

MASON VALLEY — The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection says work to revitalize and restore the former Anaconda Copper Mine site continues to progress on schedule. The first phase of the project began in August 2019, and all necessary construction work at the site is on track to be complete by 2029.

Minden, NV -Douglas County Board of County Commissioners will be conducting a Special meeting on April 29, 2020 regarding recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and economic impacts to local business in Douglas County.

The county is actively seeking public comment from residents in regards to economic impacts on local business in Douglas County.

MINDEN — Douglas County continues to provide access to Board of County Commissioner and Planning Commission meetings online, streaming through YouTube and is reminding the public about two upcoming meetings. The process for public comment is available in two formats; written comment or by phone.

On Thursday, April 2, 2020, the previously planned Carson City Board of Supervisor's meeting will continue as scheduled; however, during the mandated shut down, how the meeting will be held has been altered to suit the social distancing needed to keep all community members safe.

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Department of Transportation continues to fulfill all essential public highway services, including roadway maintenance and construction. Following Gov. Steve Sisolak’s direction and public health guidelines, the Department has transitioned to online business services and protocols as a proactive measure to help reduce spread of COVID-19 in our communities.

The South Carson Street project design is complete. The project team is pleased to announce the completion of the project design after nearly a year of design progression since the initial public kick-off meeting on December 11, 2018. During the design phase, the project team has conducted over 20 public meetings to gather useful feedback on various project features.

With activities lining up around the capital city through the weekend, Thursday events around the region include a meeting of the Healthy Communities Coalition in Silver Springs, an afternoon hike hosted by Muscle Powered, and a Carson City CASA volunteer information hour and training seminar. The Coalition’s next public meeting is Thursday, Dec. 12 at the Silver Springs Community Center at 9 a.m. This month’s guest speaker is Melissa Ferrari, Site Director for the Veterans Resource Center in Carson City.

Residents overflowed a small conference room of the Carson City Library Friday afternoon where a public meeting was held to discuss plans for the proposed Andersen Ranch Estate subdivision. The developer, Christy Corporation LTD., hosted the meeting to discuss their lot plans. They also opened the floor to current residents of the neighborhood to voice their questions and concerns.

Heading into Tuesday, expect continued sunny skies and cool temperatures. Events for the day include a morning walk and evening hike with Muscle Powered, Fall job fairs hosted by Nevada JobConnect and the Carson Nugget, the 3rd annual "BOO-nanza" celebration at the Carson City Community Center and library, a Relay for Life fundraiser at Firehouse Subs and more.

Residents of Nevada’s smaller cities and towns are encouraged to provide their input as the state of Nevada is developing its priorities for federal grant money for housing, community development and economic development activities. Residents can also anonymously provide feedback on housing discrimination issues.

Carson City invites interested individuals to bid on the purchase of the Brown Street Properties comprising of parcel numbers 008-303-15, -16, -21, 36, -37, and -39, through public auction for not less than fair market value.

In 2005 the Western Nevada HOME Consortium (WNHC) funded the purchase of properties on Brown Street using federal HOME funds in order to construct 45 units of affordable, for-ownership low-income housing. This project failed to materialize due to the economic downturn and the eventual bankruptcy of the developer.

Carson City Public Works will be hosting a public meeting regarding stormwater rates on Oct. 2, 2019, 5 to 7 p.m. in the Ormsby Room at the Sheriff’s Office.

Carson City is considering updating the Stormwater rate structure; please join Carson City Public Works for a presentation about potential changes to Stormwater rates and provide feedback.

Carson City Bee City USA will meet Wednesday, Oct. 2 for a special discussion with Greenhouse Garden Center owner David Ruff who will talk about preparing your landscape for winter.
