NDOT to host virtual public information meeting on Mt. Rose Highway corridor plan

CARSON CITY — With intersection improvements already scheduled for coming years at two Mt. Rose Highway intersections, the Nevada Department of Transportation will launch a virtual public meeting on Jan. 26 to gather public feedback on corridor planning to define future traffic improvements to the lower segment of the highway.

The COVID-19 Mitigation and Management Task Force met Thursday with seven counties flagged last week for having an elevated risk of transmission of the coronavirus. Based on data provided by the Department of Health and Human Services, six of the seven counties are still meeting at least two of the three criteria, signaling a sustained elevated risk of transmission.

Comment period on new draft plan for Anaconda mine in Lyon County begins Aug. 20

On August 20, 2020, the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection’s Bureau of Corrective Actions will be opening the public comment period for its Draft Proposed Plan: Operable Unit 8 (OU-8) Peripheral Areas located within the Anaconda Copper Mine Site in Lyon County. The public comment period will remain open through September 19, 2020.

Douglas County Sheriff walks back threats to no longer respond to Library's emergency calls due to Black Lives Matter support

UPDATE 6:23PM: On July 28, 2020 the Douglas County Library Director Amy Dodson and Douglas County Sheriff Dan Coverley met to discuss the Douglas County Public Library’s proposed statement of diversity. The library board was scheduled to discuss the statement at a public meeting scheduled for July 28, 2020. Sheriff Coverley submitted a written letter for public comment in opposition of the statement.

Former Lyon County mine sees revitalization, restoration work continue

MASON VALLEY — The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection says work to revitalize and restore the former Anaconda Copper Mine site continues to progress on schedule. The first phase of the project began in August 2019, and all necessary construction work at the site is on track to be complete by 2029.

South Carson Street project design finished, bidding process to begin

The project team is pleased to announce the completion of the project design after nearly a year of design progression since the initial public kick-off meeting on December 11, 2018. Residents overflowed a small conference room of the Carson City Library Friday afternoon where a public meeting was held to discuss plans for the proposed Andersen Ranch Estate subdivision. Carson City announces sale of city-owned parcels on Brown Street

Carson City invites interested individuals to bid on the purchase of the Brown Street Properties comprising of parcel numbers 008-303-15, -16, -21, 36, -37, and -39, through public auction for not less than fair market value.

In 2005 the Western Nevada HOME Consortium (WNHC) funded the purchase of properties on Brown Street using federal HOME funds in order to construct 45 units of affordable, for-ownership low-income housing. This project failed to materialize due to the economic downturn and the eventual bankruptcy of the developer.
