CARSON CITY — Nevada motorists who have been unable to make an appointment at DMV offices before their expiration date will benefit from two new initiatives announced by the Department of Motor Vehicles on Tuesday.

Beginning Friday, June 26, the Carson City Fire Department will implement fire restrictions on City and privately-owned lands within Carson City. Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong has joined Nevada sheriffs in all 17 counties statewide in agreeing to a 120-day temporary extension for all Concealed Weapons Permits (CCW) that have expired, or will expire, on or after March 12, 2020.

A 42-year-old New Jersey man was arrested in the 3400 block of Market Street for five felonies including attempting to obtain money under false pretenses, forgery by uttering a forged instrument, and obtaining and using the person ID of another for an unlawful purpose.

A new subdivision of 96 single family homes was approved by Lyon County Commissioners early this month, which will be built near the Sutro Heights subdivision in Dayton. A proposed Silver Springs mobile home park, which would provide workforce rental housing, was denied.

Carson City is at the center of a legal dispute following its refusal to allow hemp to be grown on property in the Buzzys Ranch area in East Carson City. Tahoe Hemp is suing for $15 million in damages citing the city broke its agreement with the Jarrard Family Trust, which gives rights to the family to use the property for agricultural purposes.
