MINDEN — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Unit and local places of worship jointly organized a police-community engagement activity to take place in Douglas County as part of the first National Faith and Blue Weekend.

Nevada’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (more popularly known as NCET) will be hosting a hybrid version of its annual Technology Awards alongside the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN) Awards on Wednesday, October 21.

The Capital City Arts Initiative and Western Nevada College present "Ink, Paper, Print" an exhibition with work by 12 regional artists in the college’s Bristlecone Gallery, 2201 W College Parkway, Carson City.

Earlier this month, members of Sierra Nevada Realtors spent time improving their communities all throughout the region. The Nevada Day Golf Tournament is returning to Carson City this Nevada Day after a long absence from the capital city.

According to Ken Hamilton, Executive Director of Nevada Day, the Golf Tournament is making a comeback this year for the first time in over a decade.

Clean Up the Lake, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, has removed 8,183 pounds of trash from Donner Lake and Lake Tahoe.

Beginning in July 2020, the Clean Up The Lake dive teams completed a circumnavigated SCUBA clean up of Donner Lake, covering every inch of the 8 mile shoreline at depths of 0-25 feet removing all the smaller trash they could find that resulted in 5,151.5 pounds of trash removed from Donner Lake compared to 3,032 pounds of trash removed from the depths of Lake Tahoe.

Kindness is on the agenda at the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting. Jimmy Gleich, from the Think Kindness organization will be the featured speaker on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The public is invited to attend. The organization’s mission is to inspire acts of kindness in schools and communities around the world.

National Forest trails, trailheads, beaches and other day-use areas in the Lake Tahoe Basin have now reopened for day-use only as of Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020. Camping and overnight stays will not be permitted, and campgrounds will remain closed. Resorts will reopen for day-use only. Emergency Fire Restrictions will remain in effect through Nov. 30. Sondra Cosgrove, President of the League of Women Voters of Nevada and Professor of History at the College of Southern Nevada, will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic tele-luncheon. Her presentation, to be teleconferenced via Zoom from Las Vegas, will spotlight the five questions on the November ballot in terms of their history and substance as well as the reasoning behind the League's positions for or against passage.

Carson City Mayor, attorney and Vietnam veteran Robert L. "Bob" Crowell died overnight. He was 74.

Robert L. "Bob" Crowell was a native Nevadan, born in the mining town of Tonopah and raised in Carson City. An attorney by profession, Bob was a Vietnam Veteran and retired Navy Captain. He was elected Mayor of Carson City in 2008 and assumed his duties as Mayor on January 5, 2009. He was re-elected in 2012 and 2016. Prior to being elected Mayor, Bob served 11 years on the Carson City School Board of Trustees.
