Holley Family Farms has been owned and operated since 1970, and bases their practices on the 19th century farming traditions of Dayton Valley, “where Italian immigrants produced vegetables and meat for the thousands of residents of the Virginia City Comstock,” according to the Holly Family Farms blog.

‘Grow Your Own, Nevada!’ classes return to cooperative extension offices

Nevadans can learn to grow safe, fresh, organic produce at home and in school and community gardens without spending a lot of money.

University of Nevada Cooperative Extension will help show residents how during eight “Grow Your Own, Nevada!” gardening classes featuring “back-to-basics” best practices for producing bountiful harvests. Classes will be presented Mondays, 2:30 – 4:30 p.m., July 8 – Aug. 26, live in Reno and video-conferenced to Extension offices throughout the state, including those in Carson City, Gardnerville, Fallon and Yerington.

A one week stay in a luxury home on the island of Kauai will be a featured lot item during the live auction at this summer’s Concert Under the Stars in Carson City.

The event takes place July 9, outdoors behind Café at Adele’s. Legendary Rock Band “War” will headline the Concert, local favorites Notch 8 and CW and Mr. Spoons will open the show. The gates open at 5 p.m. and the music begins at 6:30 p.m.

Legendary rock band “War” will headline this summer’s Concert Under the Stars taking place Tuesday, July 9 outdoors behind Café at Adele’s. The annual event benefits Carson City’s Greenhouse Project. The gates open at 5 p.m. and the music begins at 6:30 p.m.

In a career that has spanned more than four decades War has sold more than 50 million albums. The band’s unique mix of Funk, Jazz, R&B and Rock and Roll has produced numerous top ten singles including “Low Rider”, “Cisco Kid”, “Why Can’t We be Friends” and many more.

The 3rd annual Concert Under the Stars will rock Carson City on July 13th behind Adele’s Restaurant and Lounge. Grammy Winner and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member Booker T will headline the event. Proceeds benefit Carson City’s Greenhouse Project. “Sons of Champlin” will headline the event. Led by former Chicago singer and band member Bill Champlin, the Sons are one of the pioneering bay area bands from the 1960s music scene and continue to rock audiences today. Local band Southpaw Freddie will open the show.
