Today is National Lazy Day, and the options for taking it easy are endless. A day spent poolside at Carson Hot Springs, lunch and some live music at Comma Coffee, or just playing some board games with the family at Nerdvana are all good ideas. Dancing the night away is always a fun start to the week, even if it’s not lazy. Check out Rosebud’s Dance Band in the Comma Coffee Courtyard, or head to El Charro Avita for High Sierra Swing Dance Club’s weekly night out. Dachshund lovers may want to head to Fuji Park for the Silver State Sausage Society Sausage Social: try saying that one five times fast.

I hope you’re in the mood for music, Carson City. The annual Jazz and Beyond Festival begins today with an art show and concert on the lawn of the Bliss Mansion. Over the next two weeks you’ll have a plethora of melody to choose from at venues throughout town. Enjoy an outdoor concert at Third and Carson with Drinking with Clowns. Sassafras is thrilled to grab Groove Session for a show; they’re usually off touring. Mo’z Motley Blues will give you a reason to dance at Living the Good Life. You’ll want to take a look at the whole list: I’ve only barely scratched the surface.

Hot August Nights is off and running in Reno, but there’s no need to leave the valley for a good time. Tahoe Ridge Bistro and Winery is hosting its monthly ladies night. You won’t want to miss DJ Bobby G at Living the Good Life. The Brewery Arts Center Improv Workshop welcomes a special guest: instructor and actor, Michael Lewis. Dancers will want to head to El Charro for Salsa lessons or Beercade for their weekly Line Dancing Night.

Carson City Health and Human Services extends hours for measles vaccinations

Carson City Health and Human Services is offering extended walk-in immunization hours for those that have never been vaccinated against measles or are unsure of their vaccination status. Clinic hours at the 900 E. Long Street facility will be extended to 6 p.m. Thursday Feb. 19 and Feb. 26. No appointment needed.

In Jesus Name Free Medical Clinic

In Jesus Name Medical Ministry is a group of local doctors, nurses and volunteer staff who run a mobile medical clinic. It’s a service for anyone with insufficient health care coverage and it’s free. We’ll have Family Practice, Pediatrics and multiple speciality doctors available. Kids welcome. No appointment necessary.

This month’s clinic will be Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 at Calvary Chapel, 1635 Clearview Drive, Carson City. Check in is from 9 a.m. to noon. Anyone checking in after noon, unfortunately, cannot be seen.

Carson City back to school enrollment, immunizations continue this week

Beat the back to school run and bring your child in to the Carson City Health and Human Services office this week for their immunization.

Today through Aug. 15, immunizations are being held, with back to school walk-in hours from 1 to 4:30 p.m, no appointment necessary. All required school vaccines are available. After this week, Health and Human Services will offer immunizations on Thursdays only.

The agency is located at 900 East Long Street in Carson City. The number is (775) 887-2190.

Carson Tahoe Health Comes to Gardnerville with Third 'Clinic at Walmart'

Carson Tahoe Health and Walmart announce the opening of the newest location for basic health care services – “The Carson Tahoe Clinic at Walmart.” This convenient care clinic is now open to patients and will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, inside the Walmart located at 1511 Grant Avenue, off Highway 395.

Flu Vaccine Available

Carson City Health and Human Services and Douglas County Community Health have a large supply of flu vaccine for ages 6 months and older. No appointment needed from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 4:30 p.m. through January 25 (closed January 21).

Flu Vaccine and Pediatric Immunization Services at Sierra Nevada Health Center

The Sierra Nevada Health Center in Carson City will be offering reduced cost flu vaccines on Dec. 21 and Dec. 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. The reduced cost of the flu vaccine is $15. They are accepting new patients who would like to receive the flu vaccine. They are also offering pediatric immunizations on Dec. 20 and Dec. 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 3325 Research Way. No appointment is necessary.

This month, Get Healthy articles have been focusing on love – loving your heart, celebrating Valentine’s Day, and sexual health. But what happens when love isn’t what it’s supposed to be? Celebrate World AIDS Day with a FREE HIV Test

Carson City Health and Human Services encourages everyone to learn their HIV status today as the Health Department will join thousands of other healthcare providers and clinics across the country to celebrate World AIDS Day.

While low-cost HIV testing is always available at the health clinic on Long Street, testing will be offered for FREE today, Thursday, December 1. No appointment is necessary and the free testing will be available from 9-11 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m.

Free Flu Shots for Food

Carson City Health and Human Services is collecting food donations for its annual Homeless Christmas. From November 15 through December 9, donate 2 cans of food and receive a voucher for a free flu shot or nasal spray vaccine, redeemable during our regularly scheduled immunization hours on Thursdays.
