Carson City wins tourism grants for mountain bike promotion, art walk, MAC and powwow
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Thu, 12/10/2015 - 2:06pmWith the Epic Rides Off-Road Series mountain biking race set for this summer, the Carson City Visitors Bureau can pump up the fat tire frenzy along with its promotion thanks in part to a $4,000 grant, among 65 approved for funding from the state’s rural tourism program, Nevada Lt. Gov. Mark Hutchison announced Wednesday.

The famed singer and entertainer returned to campus Saturday, Aug. 22, to reminisce about his record 6’ 5 1/2” jump set in 1956.
Column: Former congressman gets prison time for tax evasion
Submitted by admin on Wed, 07/29/2015 - 8:00pmFormer Congressman Michael Grimm, age 45, pleaded guilty in 2014 to felony tax evasion and July 17, 2015 he was sentenced to eight months in prison and he resigned from Congress. One of the charges was aiding in filing a false income tax return. The Judge said the crimes also included exploiting immigrant laborers, including some who were paid only $4.60 per hour.
Grimm served two full terms in Congress. He was first elected in 2010 in the borough of Staten Island in New York City. He is a former Marine and was also a FBI agent before going to Congress.

Flanders was honored in early May at the annual gala in Washington, D.C. alongside former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg and the 2015 winner of the Judy Wilkenfeld Award for International Tobacco Control Excellence.

If you have household employees (not independent contractors) you as the employer must withhold and pay FICA taxes on their wages if the cash wages paid during 2014 or 2015 total $1,900 or more.
The employment taxes for household employees is reported on Schedule H of form 1040 of the employer (the one who pays the wages).

Former Nevada schools superintendent Eugene 'Gene' Paslov dies at age 80

Paslov was married to wife Susan and the couple have three children. He died peacefully at Renown Medical Center in Reno. Services will be held Saturday, 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Carson City.
Tahoe Interior Design Business Honored in NYC

McCall owns the Decorating Den Interiors franchise in Lake Tahoe.
Buatta joined McCall at a dinner at the famous Four Seasons Restaurant to celebrate McCall completing her year as Decorator of the Year for Decorating Den Interiors. She was joined by company chairman James S. Bugg, Sr. and his wife Carol Donayre Bugg, vice president of design.

Rare meteorite preserved for present and future scientists

Column: A Child’s Building Blocks

They were about an inch and a half square. I could use them to learn to count or learn the ABC’s or make words. I could also stack them up and make buildings or forts. Their use was as unlimited as my imagination.
