It’s going to get hot again today with a high of 93, but don’t worry, as we get out further into the week the weather will turn more autumnal with highs in the 70s. It could be the last hot day for a while, at least until a freak 90s+ hot day in November followed by a week long blizzard, so enjoy it while it’s here!

Events include the Silver State Art Festival at Fuji Park, suicide awareness walks in Carson City, a Celtic faire at Dangberg Home Ranch, the ninth annual Edible Pedal bike ride at Bowers Mansion, train rides in Virginia City and much more!

Nearly 100 Literary Luminaries to participate in Saturday's Nevada Humanities Literary Crawl
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 09/09/2019 - 1:31pmOn Saturday, Sept. 14 Nevada Humanities will hold its sixth annual Nevada Humanities Literary Crawl in Reno celebrating this year’s theme “Unabridged.”
The Literary Crawl is the premier literary event in northern Nevada that will feature an exploratory day of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry readings, as well as panel discussions, book signings, and workshops.
Nevada Reads 2019 presents famed author Willy Vlautin at State Library and Archives

Vlautin is on tour as a featured 2019 Nevada Reads author. Join the author of "Motel Life" and "Don’t Skip Out on Me" for readings and discussions on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, noon to 1 p.m. at the Nevada State Library and Archives building, 100 North Stewart St., Carson City. There will be a little bit of music too. All events are free and open to all.
Literary Enthusiasts of All Ages Hit the Streets of Reno for the Sixth Annual Nevada Humanities Literary Crawl

Nevada Humanities Welcomes Willy Vlautin to Carson City on 'Nevada Reads Tour'

Mr. Vlautin is the author of Don’t Skip Out On Me, a 2019 pick for Nevada Reads—a statewide, public book club offered by Nevada Humanities. Nevada Reads invites Nevadans to read selected works of literature and to come together in their communities to share ideas and perceptions inspired by the book club selections.
Capital City Arts Initiative presents 'Fast Lane, Slow Bake' exhibition

The exhibition runs now to Oct. 24, 2019. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Friday, July 12, 5-7 p.m. in the Sierra Room, and the artists will give a brief talk about their work at 5:30 p.m.
Nevada Arts Council announces fiscal year 2020 grant recipients

Capital City Arts Initiative presents 'New Crop 2019' exhibit

Nevada Humanities Presents “Great Basin Young Chautauqua Showcase” on May 31 and June 1

Performances by Great Basin Young Chautauquans will be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 and Saturday, June 1, 2019, starting at 6:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Restless Artists Theatre, located at 295 20th Street in Sparks. Seasoned Chautauqua performer Doug Mishler will serve as the evenings’ master of ceremonies and will share recollections of the Young Chautauqua and Chautauqua experience throughout the program.
Nevada Letters About Literature student competition winners named; advance to national competition
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Mon, 04/29/2019 - 11:16amNevada Humanities has announced the winners of the statewide Letters About Literature program. 243 students from Nevada submitted entries to the national competition at the Library of Congress, and nine Nevada students placed in the top three of their respective judging categories and will be honored in a ceremony in Las Vegas on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. The first place winners in each category will represent Nevada at the national competition in Washington, D.C.

Carson City Symphony 'Family Matters' Concert Featuring Violinist Gregory Maytan this Sunday

Featured guest soloist, violinist Gregory Maytan, will perform the United States premiere of the Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, written in 1875 by Swedish composer, Amanda Maier.

Reception Tonight: Carson City art exhibition 'Creative Spark' features 32 area high school artists

Thirty-two students from Carson, Dayton, Douglas, and Pioneer high schools have work in the exhibit. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Wednesday, April 10, 5 to 6:30 p.m.

These awards are for outstanding achievement in, and contributions to, the humanities. Biannually, Nevada Humanities presents five awards recognizing individuals and organizations that foster cultural enrichment and deepen our understanding of the human experience by facilitating opportunities for Nevadans to engage with the humanities.

Senator Square: Solutions classes through CHS offer extra help to all students

The grant money provides out-of-school-time supports for at-risk students. At risk, a broad term in this grant, includes students who are at risk of not passing a class, at risk of becoming truant, or just in need of a safe-place after school.

CCAI will host an opening reception on Friday, Oct. 5, 5-7 p.m. The exhibition will be in the gallery from October 5, 2018 to Jan. 31, 2019.
The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The reception and the exhibition are free and the public is cordially invited. The gallery is open Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
