Marilee Swirczek, a writer, professor of English, faculty member at Western Nevada College, and a driving force behind the highly acclaimed “Always Lost: A Meditation on War” photo exhibition, died Sunday.

Swirczek was project director for the “Always Lost: A Meditation on War” exhibition that originated in her creative writing class. The exhibition received nationwide recognition, with a national tour that began in 2010 and ends this July 29, 2016. Marilee was a former Carson City Supervisor from 1987 to 1989 and wife of Ron Swirczek, a member of the Carson City School Board. She was 68.

Larry Ford will present “Virgil Earp: The Gunfight at the O.K. Corral” at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, July 20, at 6:30 pm.

Western Nevada College invites the public to a reception for the final display of its nationally acclaimed traveling arts and humanities exhibition, “Always Lost: A Meditation on War.” The exhibition is in the main art gallery at the WNC Carson City campus, through July 29. WNC is located at 2201 West College Parkway in Carson City.

Chautauqua performers Dana Blane, Larry Lippmann and Mike Trute will portray local historical figures Donner Party survivor “Patty Reed”, Stagecoach driver “Hank Monk” and U.S. Marshall “Warren Wasson” at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Wednesday, July 6, at 6:30 pm.

The Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] announces its exhibition, "For Detail View" by artist Jeff Hantman at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery from February 5 – May 25. The Courthouse is located at 885 E Musser Street, Carson City. The exhibition is free and the public is cordially invited. The gallery is open to the public Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm.

On Tuesday, March 15, the Capital City Arts Initiative will present a talk by artist and curator Paul Baker Prindle. His illustrated talk, Museum Work: Increasing Creative Capital, is the next in CCAI’s Nevada Neighbors series.

The talk will take place at 7pm at the Community Development building (formerly “the BRIC”), 108 E Proctor St, Carson City. There will be an informal reception for Paul preceding the event at 6:15pm. The presentation and reception are free, and the public is cordially invited.

The Carson City Symphony, conducted by David Bugli, will be joined by jazz singer Madeline Eastman for "On the Jazzy Side," a concert on Sunday, Feb. 28.

The 28th annual Nevada Writers Hall of Fame welcomes inductee, Ellen Hopkins, author of 11 bestselling novels, numerous stories and more than 20 children’s nonfiction titles. Mark Maynard, author of “Grind,” and Laura McBride, author of “We Are Called to Rise,” will be awarded with the 2015 Silver Pen.

Embracing the area's design and manufacturing community, the Capital City Arts Initiative's [CCAI] exhibition, Industrial Art, is now at the Carson City Library. The show, previously at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery, will be available at the Library through November 19.

The Library will host a public reception for Industrial Art on Friday, October 2, 3:30-5pm in honor of Manufacturer's Month [October]. The Library’s MT1 training room and the Digitorium will also feature students’ manufacturing activities during the open house event.

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, Divergence by artist Katie Lewis at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery from October 2, 2015 - January 21, 2016. CCAI will host a reception for the artist on Friday, October 2, 5-7pm and Ms. Lewis will give an artist talk at 5:30pm.

On Wednesday, September 16, 2015, the Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] will present a talk by Nicole Nathan, curator at the Museum of Contemporary Craft in Portland, Oregon. Her illustrated talk, “Craft Now” is the next in CCAI’s Nevada Neighbors series. The talk will take place at 7pm at the BRIC, 108 E Proctor St, Carson City. Artown and Nevada Humanities have partnered with KUNR Reno Public Radio and University of Nevada, Reno, Reynolds School of Journalism to present renowned storyteller and NPR host Ira Glass for a unique speaking engagement on Saturday, Oct. 17, 8 p.m. at The Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Reno.

The Capital City Arts Initiative [CCAI] announces its exhibition, "Tow'ring High", by artist Deon Reynolds at the Carson City Community Center's Sierra Room from July 8 – November 10, 2015. Community Center is located at 851 E. William Street, Carson City. The show's title comes from the state song, "Home Means Nevada."

Peavine Hall, predicted to be the University’s first LEED Gold certified building, opened for a public viewing during its grand-opening ceremony Thursday and will open to students for fall 2015 semester Aug. 20.

As part of the citywide music festival, Jazz & Beyond, the Capital City Arts Initiative will host artists selling their art, 5-7pm, in the Carson City Community Center lobby, Tuesday, August 18 prior to the 7pm "Music of Motown" concert. The lobby will open at 5pm and the public is cordially invited.

A highlight of the 2015 Jazz & Beyond Festival will be a two-part Motown special. First is a free lecture-demonstration by musician-educator John Shipley. It will feature music, visuals, a guitar raffle, a no-host bar, and a guest appearance by Lloyd Williams of Otis Day and the Knights on Monday, August 17, at the Brewery Arts Center.

The second part of the Motown special is a ticketed concert showcasing Williams, the original singing voice from the hit movie Animal House, on Tuesday, August 18, 7 p.m., at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William Street in Carson City.

CCAI and St. Mary's will host a reception for the artist on Saturday, June 27, 1-4pm including an artist talk at 2pm. St. Mary's Art Center is located at 55 North R Street, Virginia City, Nevada. Embracing the area’s design and manufacturing community, the Capital City Arts Initiative is hosting its exhibition, “Industrial Art,” from June 9 through Sept. 17 at the CCAI Courthouse Gallery.

The exhibition “White Pine County Artistry,” with landscape paintings of Dawn Dot Star debuts at the Nevada Arts Council’s LXS Gallery at the Nevada State Legislative Building in Carson City on April 27. The artist specializes in watercolor and pencil depictions of rural Nevada.

Since the early 1980s, May has been a month for celebrating historic preservation and archaeology in Nevada. Agencies and organizations have teamed to spread awareness of archaeological and historic preservation efforts throughout the state and encourage both residents and visitors to explore and learn about Nevada’s significant archaeological and historical treasures.

The Carson City Symphony invites the public to "Spring Celebration," a concert on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at the Carson City Community Center. The diverse program features soloists Sally Turk, flute, and Micheal Langham, harp, in Mozart's Concerto for Flute and Harp, and the Carson City Symphony Chorus in Mozart's early work in praise of God, Te Deum.
