Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties is now offering new hours at two of their food pantries for those who cannot visit during their regular hours.

Healthy Communities Coalition’s Yerington Food Pantry has served people in the Yerington area since 2017. With the generosity of Cheryl Giomi, who leased her Bridge Street building to the nonprofit at no charge, the Pantry continually expanded its work to stop hunger.

With Thanksgiving just over a week away, Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties is asking for help from the community.

The nonprofit Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties is seeking applicants for a service and training opportunity being offered in the Dayton, Nevada area. The successful applicant will have a dedication to teamwork aimed at increasing access to food, thereby improving food security and wellness in the community.

Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey counties will hosts its monthly meeting on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021, 9 a.m. via Zoom. The public meeting includes member updates and introductions, discussion of matters of regional importance to health and wellness, plus presentations by guest speakers.

DAYTON — The new "3rd Thursday" events in Lyon County aim to bring groups, families and communities together with family friendly activities. The first event kicks off in Dayton this Thursday July 18 from 4 to 7 p.m. with music, family activities and games, a free BBQ by Healthy Communities Coalition, and information booths by Lyon County libraries, Human Services, Community Chest Inc, Community Roots and Shoots, etc.

For the winter holidays, the Dayton Food Pantry has a goal of collecting 200 hams. In addition, the Pantry is in need of clean blankets and sleeping bags to distribute.

The Dayton Food Pantry hit its goal to collect and distribute 300 turkeys during the days leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday.

“I can't thank everyone enough. During November, the community helped the Pantry reach 1,250 people who needed food," said Pantry manager Alie Trier.

DAYTON, Nev. — Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties' free cooking class and dinner is on February 26th at 5:30pm at the Dayton Community Center at 170 Pike Street. This month, the focus is on ‘Boosting Moods With Foods.’

DAYTON — The public is warmly invited to join dietitian Kim Mason and chef Cynthia Kroon for a healthy cooking demonstration, followed by dinner, on Monday, Jan. 22, 5:30pm at the Dayton Valley Community Center at 170 Pike Street. Bring a friend or meet news ones at the free class. There’s no need to register, and everyone is welcome.

Silver Springs, Nevada – This week’s Silver Stage Food Pantry news includes recognition for several groups that recently added support to the Pantry: Dollar General Stores, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW Post 8071) of Virginia City, Northern Nevada Motorcylcle Association, and Safe Project of Reno.

DAYTON – Volunteers from the Dayton Food Pantry and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department will be at Smith's Grocery in Dayton on Saturday, November 18th from 10am-4pm, working toward the goal to fill a police car completely full of nonperishable food to help Dayton area friends and neighbors.

State and federal agencies and non-profit organization leaders will meet Wednesday with Nevada’s First Lady Kathleen Sandoval at the Governor's Mansion in Carson City to address food and hunger issues during the Northern Nevada Food Summit.
