Nevada Leaders Oppose Question 2
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 10/05/2016 - 12:08pmNevada Leaders Oppose Question 2:
“As Governor and a former Federal Judge, I have seen first-hand the negative effects that marijuana for recreational purposes can have on our state and our communities. Proponents of this measure claim it will help education, it will not. What it will do is create health and safety problems that Nevada cannot afford. Legalizing marijuana would have devastating consequences for our state and for Nevada families and I would ask that voters join with me and Vote No on 2 when they head to the polls this fall.” – Governor Brian Sandoval

Sandoval Errs: Commerce Tax Repeal Will Not Cause Budget Cuts
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 05/11/2016 - 8:21amGov. Brian Sandoval and his allies don’t think voters should have a say on the commerce tax they snuck through in the closing hours of last year’s legislature.
They're entitled to their views. However, they’ve been wildly misrepresenting key facts about the matter and about the actions and words of Ron, who is leading the effort to repeal the tax. Below, we set them and the record straight.
Repealing the Commerce Tax Will Not Unbalance the Budget
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 04/27/2016 - 9:50amRecently Ron spoke to an industry group about the petition to give voters the final say this fall on the onerous Commerce Tax passed by the Legislature and Governor last year.
A lawyer for referendum opponents also spoke, and we were appalled at their attitude toward Nevada voters and the grossly false arguments they make against a referendum.
Partnership Carson City column: Green is the New Color of Greed in Nevada
Submitted by editor on Mon, 03/07/2016 - 3:51pm“When everyone is looking for gold, it’s good to be in the pick and shovel business.” — Mark Twain
The entrepreneur-turned-humorist ought to know. Even though Samuel Clemens failed miserably at both mining and logging ventures in Nevada, he gave getting rich his best shot. Twain well understood the appetite Americans have for money — and how far those who want a slice of the supply chain pie are willing to go in order to get it.
It’s the same ambitious impulse a recent Seattle Business article identified when it said, “Marijuana entrepreneurs are lining up to cash in.”

A Referendum to Define the Republican Party
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 12/16/2015 - 9:46amLast year, Nevadans voted almost 4-to-1 against taxing businesses based on their gross receipts. Amidst an anemic economic recovery, most Nevadans understood that taxing them on their top line, with no regard for their costs or profitability, was a terrible idea.
But then the 2015 legislature, at Gov. Sandoval's last-minute behest and without reasonable opportunity for anyone to examine what he proposed, passed such a tax anyway.

Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Sun, 08/30/2015 - 10:25pmBuying a home has long been the American dream, but it’s not always easy. While many can afford the monthly mortgage -which oftentimes is less than rent - coming up with the down payment can be daunting.
