Why Miles Davis left some of us behind and why we're just now catching up

I’ve been a longtime fan of jazz trumpeter Miles Davis. This is, up until he moved beyond me into funk and rock, not exactly jazz to my way of thinking. Couldn’t be all bad, I figured.

I, for one, always thought of Monk as a dapper, slim esthetic kind of guy, but the DVD "Thelonious Monk: Straight No Chaser" available from Netflix, shows a different kind of guy: big, hulking, lively, involved in his music and fellow players.
