Labor Day Weekend Highlights

Carson City:
Saturday – Monday: Take a ride on the Virginia and Truckee #25 Steam Engine at the Nevada State Train Museum. Rides begin approximately every 40 minutes, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Fares are $8 for ages 12 and over; $4 for ages 4 to 11 and Museum members; and FREE for ages 3 and under.

Obituary: Drusilla J Service

SERVICE, Drusilla “Drucy” J, 86, of Chester, VA, went home to be with her Lord peacefully surrounded by family July 31st, 2016.

Born on March 14, 1930 in Bolckow, MO, Drusilla spent her life in California, Nevada and Virginia. A beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, she had an unwavering and steadfast devotion to her family and to the Lord. Drusilla’s belief in goodness, her sense of optimism, and her belief that everything would be all right was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Legendary soul and funk supergroup Tower of Power to headline Concert Under the Stars

An award-winning musician and producer was arrested Thursday near a Lake Tahoe casino after drug enforcement officers found nearly 58 grams of methamphetamine on the man, according to a Tri-NET task force officer.

Consort Canzona to present Memorial Carson City concerts May 21-22

Consort Canzona, a select group of local instrumental musicians and singers, will be heard in two concerts commemorating the life of the group’s founder, Sharon Kientz, who died in 2015.

The concerts will be on Saturday, May 21, and Sunday, May 22, 7 p.m., at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church, 3680 Highway 395 South, Carson City, behind Best Buy. Admission is free.

Carson City fundraiser to help rider's journey to raise horse adoption awareness

An independent and assisted living community in Carson City will host a fundraising event Tuesday to support a Nevada woman's effort to bring awareness and support to wild horse adoption.

The event, dubbed "Along for the Ride" will be done in support of Samantha Szesciorka, who, for the second time since 2013, will ride across Nevada by horseback to advocate for wild horses.

Senator Square: Gearing up for the Carson High School talent show

The annual talent show is coming up at Carson High School. The event will take place 7 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Carson Community Center. Auditions for the talent show will be on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2:05 p.m. in the upstairs cafeteria at CHS. Audition applications can be picked up from room No. 243 or the office. The CHS talent show is only open to ninth through 12th graders at CHS and cash prizes are awarded. The CHS chapter of FBLA is hosting this event. Carson City Symphony presents 'Shifting Landscapes' at community center theater

The Carson City Symphony, directed by David Bugli, will open its 32nd season on Sunday, October 18, 2015, 4:00 p.m., with a concert, "Shifting Landscapes," at the Carson City Community Center's Bob Boldrick Theater, 851 E. Mile High Jazz Band Presents Autumn Jazz With Singers Jakki Ford and June Joplin

World-exploring journalist, author Simon Winchester to give free public lecture at UNR

Lake Tahoe Summerfest Classic Concert series launches 2015 season with 'Passport to a World of Music'

Lake Tahoe SummerFest’s fourth season, “Passport to a World of Music,” will bring Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn to audiences July 31 – Aug. 16. The three weekend series of nine different concerts will transport attendees through masterpieces translated by renowned artists and a nationally acclaimed orchestra of 40 players.
