Press Coffee and Waffles is Carson City’s newest mobile eatery, and will be hitting the streets sometime this month to serve up two of America's favorite breakfast items to the capital city and surrounding areas.

Press Coffee and Waffles is stationed out of a vintage 1960s food cart. The cart in and of itself is eye catching, with rounded curves in an example of classic retro-futurism, which, said co-owner Aaron Gorton, is one of only 150 ever made.

I just returned from Orange, Virginia from a conference held at Montpelier, former US President James Madison's estate. I was chosen among applicants to attend this conference because I think our community needs to know the cool educational opportunities in which teachers are embarking. The conference covered “Gender, Sexual Identity, and the Constitution.”

Good morning Carson City! It's finally starting to feel like Spring around here. The weather today is going to be another gorgeous day, sunny with highs of 56, a low of 28, and 52 percent humidity. On the schedule today we have a ton of wonderful events, from a live music benefit for the homeless, to pollinator workshops, a Roller Derby match, a Veteran's Remembrance Day celebration at Mills Park, and much more. UPDATE: The Subaru, Leave No Trace Traveling Trainers will be leading an Awareness Workshop at the Carson City Community Center in the Bonanza Room tonight. Tom Blake, NETworX Program Manager at the Capital City CIRCLES Initiative will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon. An Anglican priest, Blake came to Carson City from Muncie, Indiana, where he served for 13 years as pastor of Grace Episcopal Church.

CARSON CITY — The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recently announced that Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center has achieved a 4-star rating for an acute care hospital, out-ranking the national average of 3-stars.

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we want to acknowledge local women who have blazed the trail for today’s women continuing to make a difference in a world once dominated by men. It wasn’t so very long ago men dominated the highest non-elected positions in Carson City government.

Meditation Secrets that Celebrate Our Sensuousness, Intuition and Individuality. This is a 6-Hour Meditation and Movement Workshop with Jenn Andrews.

During this workshop we will dive into the meditation secrets that encourage us to delight in our senses and the sensuousness of life.

The Carson City School District’s quarterly Community Professional Learning Community meeting, Wednesday, Feb. 27, 6 p.m., will focus on sustainable practices. The meeting, held inside the Carson High School Library, will be the first part of a 1.5-day Executive Sustainability Summit.

With the sponsored support of Carson Tahoe Health, the Carson City School District will host two evening showings of the 60-minute documentary titled "Screenagers" Thursday, Feb. 28, at the recently remodeled Bob Boldrick Theatre in the Carson City Community Center.

This Saturday we are super stoked for an indoor demo event by Team Suffix, @suffixporcupine. The skate demo, held at The WheelHouse at 291 Rhodes Street in Carson City, runs from 2-8 p.m. Saturday. It will be catered by Chipotle.

Join Deanna Hoover, in the Brewery Arts Center painting studio, for her popular “paint like” series; this time, you will be studying and learning to paint like the artist Elaine de Kooning. All levels are welcome!

Elaine de Kooning (1918-1989) was an American painter, teacher, and critic known for her work with abstract expressionism. Her portraiture often features friends and family, but her most famous sitter was President JFK. Elaine de Kooning was a social activist, especially the women’s movement.

In the tradition of TED, a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, comes TEDxCarsonCity, a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

"Winterflix," a play on the popular Netflix streaming service, was the theme this year at the 2019 Winterfest week at CHS with dress-up days and night-time activities all week long. Some of the events included the Netflix show, "Stranger Things," a Twins Day, "Riverdale," "The Office," and even the ever popular once-a-month Dress for Success competition.

The sixth-ranked Nevada men’s basketball team poured on the points and avenged its only loss this season with a 91-62 drubbing of New Mexico on Saturday at Lawlor Events Center. The Pack exploited the Lobos’ defensive gameplan from the inside-out and turned the game into a one-sided affair.

Cell phones and social media are connecting us and impacting our lives in so many ways. Among all the positives, studies are now showing some damaging affects these social media and screen-time may have on the mental and physical health of children.

Sue Meuschke, executive director for the Nevada Coalition to End Domestic and Sexual Violence (NCEDSV), was honored today with a proclamation from the office of the governor for her 30 years of service as “a dedicated and talented community leader, collaborator and advocate for survivors” for the State of Nevada, advocating for victims of domestic and sexual violence and increasing awareness of the issues.

Anyone who lives near wilderness ought to know that wildlife comes with the territory.

Wild critters are no strangers to the front and back yards of Carson City residents. They also know their way around the streetscape pretty well, too.

Hello fellow anglers. We are all sad to hear of the tragedy at Topaz lake a couple weeks ago.

This week kicks off “School Choice Week,” an annual awareness movement that supports parents and children being able to choose their own schooling options, and Nevada students came out to support the cause by marching in front of the Capitol building in Carson City Tuesday morning.

Good morning Carson City, today is Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019 and it will be a soggy one at that. Rain will continue throughout the morning, changing to snow showers later this afternoon, which has prompted a Winter Weather Advisory for the lower valley areas such as Carson City and Carson Valley. Forecasters urge motorists not to travel into the Sierra today as several feet of heavy snow will impact roadways and travel.

Hello Carson City and welcome to Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2019. With snow plow efforts underway and a warm-up from Mother Nature, it looks like the morning commute will be a slushy one. Carson City schools will operate today at normal start times. That all may change tomorrow though as a significant winter storm is expected to bring snow and rain to the valley and feet of snow to Lake Tahoe and the Sierra. Stay tuned.

Start the new year off with mindfulness and meditation classes beginning Jan. 30 in Carson City. This 5-week class will introduce attendees to the practice of sitting, walking, and eating meditation, and teach participants how to bring mindfulness to everyday life. Core Buddhist concepts will also be explored. Some classes will include mindful movement.

While no one can truly know the future, the year 2019 is going to be full of notable anniversaries commemorating events significant to history. Some we celebrate, others we mourn or memorialize. Some are remembered fondly, others with grief.

2019 is here! And Well Being kicks off the New Year with its first Health and Fitness Seminar, "FMS: What is it and how can it benefit me?"

The presenter, Scott Williams (PT, OCS) and FMS Level 2 certified is the owner and trainer at Synergy Therapeutics located in Truckee, California.

He will explain the FMS (Functional Movement Screen) body assessment system and how it can be used to influence and maximize your outcomes during your fitness journey. Scott earned his Masters in Physical Therapy from UC San Francisco in 1992.

Local members of the Red Hat Society delivered holiday cheer to the residents at Richards Crossing, a 39-unit affordable housing development in Carson City, developed and managed by the Nevada Rural Housing Authority for the homeless and extremely low-income individuals.
