Nevada Department of Transportation celebrates 100 years in the Silver State

CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Transportation is celebrating 100 years with historical photos and timeline posted on the Department’s website, as well as an invitation for Nevadans to share their state transportation memories.

Carson City-based aviation nonprofit presented $5K grant from Vital Life Foundation

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Ageless Aviation Dreams Foundation, a non-profit organization that offers Dream Flights to U.S. military veterans living in retirement communities and long-term care facilities, received a $5,000 grant from Vital Life Foundation, a Marquis and Consonus Foundation that supports organizations and programs that provide meaning and vitality in the lives of seniors and staff members living and working in long-term care.

Fleet Reserve Association - Celebrate Christmas and Donate to Toys for Tots

The Sierra-Tahoe Branch and Ladies Auxiliary Unit #137 of the Fleet Reserve Association held their Annual Christmas Party at Jethro’s Oven - Grill, Gardnerville. The food was plentiful and enjoyed by everyone, along with fabulous yummy desserts prepared by Brenda Horton, President of the Ladies Auxiliary. A big thank you to Larry Knack and Rick Athenour for arranging the event.

Wonderful raffle prizes were donated by local stores, including a $100 Walmart gift card. Thank you to Sue Higgins for securing the raffle prizes and displaying them so nicely.

A retired United States Marine gunnery sergeant has been named Nevada Veteran of the Month by the Nevada Office of Veterans Services (NOVS).

Frank Reynolds of Carson City was selected by nomination for his work serving fellow veterans both in the community and statewide.

Efforts underway to restore Stewart Indian School, a Carson City landmark with a bittersweet legacy

Gloria Whiterock McDonald has fond memories of her time at Stewart Indian School in Carson City. She was in the eighth grade when she arrived from the Duck Valley Indian Reservation near the Nevada-Idaho line in 1961.
