Chase that began in Douglas County ends with crash on Carson City freeway; suspect taken by Care Flight

A vehicle chase that began in Douglas County ended on the Carson City I-580 freeway Sunday night with male suspect being flown by Care Flight after the vehicle he was driving crashed into the median.

According to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong, deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol were pursuing the vehicle after Douglas County authorities alerted them to the chase that crossed the county line at around 8:45 p.m.

Condominium fire leads to arrest of woman on felony drug charge

Carson City authorities investigating a possible arson at a condominium this morning arrested the woman who lived at the residence on a felony drug charge. Ginnie Heidt, was arrested at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Allouette Way.

According to the arrest report, officers investigating the fire insider Heidt's condominium made contact with her where she told authorities she was not aware of a fire at her residence but that she was informed earlier in the morning from a friend of hers that something bad happened there but that he provided no information.

Carson City man jailed after officers find meth stashed in toy action figure

A 25-year-old Carson City man faces felony drug charges after a vehicle search netted, among other things, methamphetamine that was stashed inside a toy action figure.

Officers arrested Jesse Silis-Teran at 5:35 p.m. Thursday near Humboldt and Long streets. According to the arrest report, officers patrolling the area heard a group of people yelling at each other and met with three individuals at a parked car.

Bill would help children with food allergy attacks at school

A bill that would allow schools to obtain and administer auto-injectable epinephrine in the event of a student having a food allergy attack has cleared committee and is on its way to the General Assembly this week.

While it hasn't gotten a lot of press attention and isn't shrouded in controversy, SB453 is designed to protect children at school if they suffer from a food allergy attack or are stung by a bee and have an allergic reaction.

Carson City deputies make several court warrant arrests

Carson City sheriff's deputies have made several court violation arrests since Monday. The arrests have been both misdemeanor and felony related. Arrests have also been made that involved domestic abuse, theft, driving under the influence of drugs and huffing.

Deputies arrested a 28-year-old transient with outstanding felony and gross misdemeanor warrants. Melanie Huddleston, was arrested early Wednesday morning, 3:16 a.m. at a casino in the 3800 block of Highway 50 East.

Carson City woman jailed for DUI drugs, felony battery after vehicle collision

A Carson City woman faces a felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon after colliding with a vehicle Saturday afternoon at Ponderosa Drive and and Koontz Lane.

Lisa Spangenthal, age not provided, was booked into Carson City Jail after being arrested at 1:47 p.m. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence of drugs.

According to the arrest report, officers were dispatched to the incident that involved an Oldsmobile Cutlass and a 2011 Hyundai. The Hyundai had major front end damage on the passenger side.

Injured dog left for dead recovers well at Carson City canine rescue

An update on Murphy, the dog who had been hit on Highway 50 in Mound House last month and left for dead. He is recovering nicely in his Dog Town Rescue foster home in Carson City.

Murphy is now officially "off" his pain medication, is able to walk on his own, and is enjoying lots of treats and love from the kids in the home.

Carson City sheriff's deputies make drug and burglary-related arrests

Drug crimes, burglary, child neglect and a third DUI offense made up the bulk of this weekend's felony-related arrests, Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies report.

Two men were arrested Sunday and face felony charges after attempting to steal air compressors from a vacant Carson City building. Arrested were Geoffrey Earl Meudt, 39, of Gardnerville and Steven Walter Cozad, 30, of Wellington, Nev. Both are being held and face charges of being in possession of burglary tools and gross misdemeanor charges of conspiracy to commit theft.

Carson City authorities make multiple weekend arrests

A 39-year-old Las Vegas man faces a felony burglary charge after allegedly clipping security tags off several items of clothing at a Carson City department store and putting them on underneath his clothes.

Anthony Abruzzo was arrested Feb. 17, 8:28 p.m. in the 3800 block of Carson Street after security from a local department store called authorities about the man was believed to be taking shoes.

A 57-year-old Carson City caregiver was arrested early Friday morning after deputies clocked the man doing at least 95 mph in a 55 mph zone.
The incident happened at 4:47 a.m. The man was arrested at the intersection of Highway 50 and Flint Road. He faces a misdemeanor speeding charge, as well as misdemeanor reckless wanton driving, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.

Friends and family ask for help finding missing Carson City man

Friends and family of a missing Carson City man are concerned about his whereabouts and have asked the public for help finding him. The man's name is Jerry Santos, 68. He is 6 feet tall, weighs 175 pounds, gray hair, with hazel or green brown eyes. He is a resident of West Long Street, where he was last seen. Santos went missing, his friends report, at around 3 p.m.
"We're concerned about his well being," said friend Truckee Paxton.

No Meningitis Outbreak in Northern Nevada

There are no known outbreaks of meningitis in Northern Nevada, reports Carson Tahoe Hospital in Carson City.
Doris Dimmitt, hospital epidemiologist, reports that the hospital did not use the contaminated drug identified as causing the outbreak.
Nevada is identified as one of the states receiving the contaminated drugs. The FDA identified and seized five unopened vials of contaminated drug from Southern Nevada, but no infected patients have been identified state wide.

Carson City authorities arrest woman after narcotics found in lost purse

A Carson City woman faces felony drug charges after a lost purse inside a casino turned up with several narcotics inside.
Laura Sherlock-Yong, 46, was arrested Sept. 27 in the 500 block of North Carson Street.
According to the arrest report officers were contacted regarding a purse that was found by security officers inside a casino. The purse was opened for the purpose to find out who it belonged to and inside there was two baggies with suspected drugs, a straw for doing drugs and a pill bottle with several types of medication, according to the report.

Crime Log: Carson City man arrested for child endangerment, reckless driving

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested the following individuals for felony or gross misdemeanor allegations:

  • Sean Tyler Van Doren, 26, a Carson City resident, just before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Van Doren was arrested for gross misdemeanor allegations of child abuse/endangerment, as well as misdemeanor allegations of driving on a revoked driver's license, reckless driving, and violation of a temporary protective order. Bail is set at $6,500 plus administrative assessments.

Crime Log: 90-year-old Carson City woman missing

A missing persons report was filed with the Carson City Sheriff's Office at around 9 a.m. Monday for a 90-year-old woman on blood pressure medication. According to the incident report, the missing person - Kitty Webb - has not been found. She was alleged to have last been seen in a white Ford F-150 with Nevada license plates.

Carson City's Planned Parenthood serves the community, helps the impoverished

Planned Parenthood evokes strong reactions in most people. The name has been in the media a lot lately; from the many attempts to rescind their funding at a federal level to the recent fiasco with the Susan G. Komen Foundation, nearly everyone has the name at the tip of their tongue these days. With that in mind, it's not too surprising that 100 to 150 people crowded into the new Carson City Planned Parenthood clinic to check out the new digs at their open house Monday night.

Movie Review: 'Chronicle' sci-fi thriller above average

The sci-fi thriller "Chronicle," currently showing at the Fandango Galaxy multiplex in Carson City, explores the world of ESP in general and telekinesis in particular. The explorers are three teens, Andrew (Dane DeHaan), Steve (Michael B. Jordan) and Matt (Alex Russell). Most of the movie is composed of film clips from Andrew, a nerd and unpopular at school.

The three pals ask Andrew, who records everything, to video a hole in the ground. The three enter the hole and find a blue rock which glows as they touch it. Quickly their noses begin to bleed.

Crime Log: Man arrested for stealing cancer patient's medication

Carson City Sheriff's deputies arrested Orion Johnathan Haines, 20, a Carson City resident, at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at the 1900 block of North Carson Street.

Officers were dispatched to the location to apprehend a fleeing felon. The felon in question was quickly apprehended. Haines refused several times to comply with officers after his friend was arrested, and was discovered to have allegedly stolen medications from a cancer patient that lived next door to him.

Crime Log: vandalism turns into attempt to obtain medication

A Carson City Sheriff's deputy arrested Cameron Matthew Haffey, 20, a stocker from Carson City, just before 3 a.m. Wednesday at the 1800 block of North Carson Street. Around 11 p.m. Tuesday officers were dispatched to a north Carson pharmacy on a report of a broken window. Camera footage showed a suspect in dark pants and a dark coat. Later on the same deputy was passing the pharmacy and spotted a suspect that matched that description.

Crime log: Two separate probation violations lead to arrests

At around 10 p.m. Wednesday evening, Carson City Sheriff's officers arrested Corey Allan Madieros, 19, a construction worker from Gardnerville, near the 1300 block of South Carson Street. Madieros was arrested for a Parole and Probation violation; no bail was set.

Carson City man arrested for running naked down street, into casino

Apparently, the patrons of the Carson Nugget got to see a little more of Tyler Dean Davies than they wanted to.

On Tuesday evening, Carson City Sheriff's deputies received a report of a man running naked down the street. One deputy spotted Davies, 21, running southbound on North Carson Street near the intersection with Robinson Street. According to the arrest report, Davies ignored orders to stop and instead ran into the northwest doors of the Carson Nugget. Another deputy stopped Davies with a Taser inside the casino near the coffee shop.
