These recent articles are a faithful representations of the Party Line. Of course that party line is dead wrong, but at least the writer does a good job presenting it.

Social Security COLA and Medicare rate hikes

The following was sent to me by a friend, a retired detective, who gave me permission to submit it here. I checked his information, it's true.

Did you receive your Medicare Handbook for 2015 yet? If you have already received yours in the mail, please turn to page 12, go down to the bottom of the page and read "Find out what you pay for Medicare (Part A and Part B)." It states that

"the premium and deductible amounts weren't available at the time of printing. To get the most up-to-date cost information, ... call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227)."

Column: How to save taxes when an employee works from home

For several years now, many employers have learned to save money by hiring out of state employees to work from their homes. Let’s look at an example. A Silicon Valley High Tech company hires a highly qualified lady who lives in Nevada.

Right away, the California based company has saved money by paying it’s Nevada employee less since the Nevada employee is not subject to California Income Tax while working in Nevada.

Column: Changes being weighed regarding minister housing allowances

Ministers have a special tax benefit for the amount of Housing Allowance they receive. They can exclude from gross income for income tax purposes the rental value of homes furnished by churches as part of their compensation.

This is also allowed for the portion of a retired minister’s pension that is designated as a rental allowance by the national governing body of a religious denomination having complete control over the retirement fund.

Carson City voters take to the polls

Today is Primary Day in Carson City and it is also Carson City Clerk-Recorder Alan Glover's birthday.

The 65-year-old elections chief, former five-term Nevada Assemblyman and later a Nevada State Senator before resigning when he was appointed Carson City Recorder in 1985, noted this is not only his last primary he will oversee, as he is retiring this year, but he's now got his "Medicare card and everything."

Column: 'Rich' folks paid more tax in 2013

Some high earning individuals were surprised when they got their 2013 Individual Income Tax Return. They paid more taxes in 2013 than they did on the same income in 2012. Several different tax laws caused the higher federal income taxes.

The Itemized Deductions on Schedule A of form 1040 were reduced if single individuals had more than $250,000 of total income. Even their home mortgage interest and charitable deductions were reduced to less than they paid. Married couples saw the “phase down” of Itemized Deductions if their total income was $300,000 or more.

Column: Some thoughts on long term care insurance

It is important for seniors to have a long term care plan. Many folks dread and avoid discussing this planning. They know about seven out of ten folks that reach age 65 will require some form of long term care during their lives. They hope it is not them.

Column: Taxes and The Yellow Brick Road

Anybody remember the lyrics to the Wizard of Oz song about the Yellow Brick Road?

“You’re off to see the Wizard, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. You’ll find he is a Whiz of a Wiz if ever a Wiz there was. If ever, oh ever, a Wiz there was the Wizard of Oz is one because. Because, because, because, because, because. Because of the wonderful things he does. You’re off to see the wizard, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.”

Column: End of Year Tax Planning

Well Howdy folks! I sincerely hope you all had a GREAT Thanksgiving! We do have so much to be thankful for.

One of the things I am thankful for is that we have finished updating all our office computers operating system to a newer version of “doors” (not the real name to protect the innocent). I haven’t noticed any improvement in productivity yet though. (I thought new computer stuff always meant new tools that make us more productive.

U.S. Educator Report Card: Math F, Science F, Reading D-, Socialism A+

The 2012 education PISA* rankings indicate that the USA came in at 25th for math, 14th for reading and 17th for science out of 30 countries with only three of those countries spending slightly more money per pupil than America. Yet the mantra for more money, benefits and taxes for education continue just as it has for the last sixty years. If more money will solve the education problem then why hasn't it ever worked in the last sixty years?

The Hundred Year War On The Economy

Sometimes it takes a while to get the big picture, to see things coming into focus. Now, I am not much for conspiracy theories, but if anything looks like it is being driven by design, this is one. The theories driving it were formulated many lifetimes ago. The people whose sick minds spawned them are long dead. For the life of me I do not understand how any egomaniac could possibly get his jollies from a trend he might have started but maybe not even his great-grandson might see coming to fruition. But there it is, a hundred year timeline on several fronts.

Destruction of money

Obama(care) economy

I am not disappointed; I am angry, I am tired.

I told you so, again and again for four years. OK, so Obama did not cancel the elections; he did one better, he put the veneer of the "will of the people" on it. Voting is the best revenge...? He never had to say, against whom.
