Foundation Schedules Wungnema Open House this Sunday, April 23

The Foundation for Carson City Parks and Recreation is holding an Open House at the Wungnema House in Mills Park Sunday, April 23, from 2 to 5 p.m. The building is accessible by the Park entrance on Saliman Road, opposite the high school.

"We're the sweethearts of the leagues around here," said CVR Events Coordinator Crystal Blackeye. "Sometimes they get into it with each other, but the other teams mended their ways because of us and became legit."

Happy birthday Nevada: How, when and where to celebrate Nevada Day 2016 events

Nevada is one of the few states that celebrate its Admission Day, and boy do we throw a party. A parade, competitions of strength and facial hair, hot air balloons, bloody marys, a carnival, pow wow, and free chili are just a few of the festivities awaiting the capital city on Saturday.

The party begins Friday this year with a ribbon cutting celebration of the 'new' downtown. The Nevada State Museum hits its 75th Anniversary this year and will have a day full of fun and surprises. RSVP Nevada Day Fair to feature Day of Service, Carson City Victory Rollers

The Nevada Rural Counties Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) is hosting the Nevada Day Carnival and Fair for a third decade at Mills Park over the Nevada Day weekend.

Now in its 31st year, RSVP’s Nevada Day Carnival and Fair provides a fun family entertainment venue during the Silver State’s statehood celebration.

I’m usually a lover of sunny days, but right now I say bring on the rain. The moisture is a welcome help to our heroic firefighters in Lake Tahoe and Washoe Valley. Because of the wet weather and the recent fires, some activities have been postponed: most notably the Advocates to End Domestic Violence’s Annual Light After Dark Run. There are still plenty of things to occupy your time, but the weather may force more cancellations.

Carson City Inline Hockey Clinic this Sunday at Marv Teixeira Pavilion

Sunday October 16th there will be a FREE Inline Hockey Clinic from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion at Mill's Park. This is a great opportunity for beginner skaters to give inline hockey a try. All ages welcome! Bring whatever equipment you have, there will be some equipment available for use during the clinic.

Sierra Inline Hockey Skating Clinic / Open Skate

Sierra Inline Hockey League is holding a Skating Clinic and Open Skate this Sunday, 10/16/16 from 1PM to 4PM at the Marv Teixeira Pavilion (in Mills Park). This event is for all ages and skill levels. There is no cost for participants and we will have loaner gear available for those who don't already have equipment. Coaches and board members will be on-site to answer questions about our upcoming 2016-2017 season!

Parking is accessible off of Saliman Road using Seely Loop across from the High School.

Sunday, Oct. 9: Things to do around Carson City

A remembrance ceremony will take place at the World Trade Center I-Beam Memorial in Mills Park to honor those lost fifteen years ago. Tattoo expo among events featured during Rockabilly Riot car show

With more than 50 booths featuring artists from across the West Coast, Rockabilly Riot’s Tattoo Expo this weekend in Carson City will highlight some of the region’s best ink.

“You’ll get a chance to be tattooed by someone you otherwise may not even know,” said Jeffery Williford, co-owner of the Ruby Lantern, which is sponsoring the expo. “Some of these guys have a waiting list of two to three weeks out. You have a better chance of actually seeing them here.”
