Dayton Valley Branch Library to host March 9-10 book sale

Join us for the Dayton Valley Branch Library book sale on Friday and Saturday, March 9 and 10, 2018 at the Dayton Valley Branch Library at 321 Old Dayton Valley Road (across from the Junior High school). The sale will open at 9:00 AM on Friday and close at 5:00 PM. Saturday hours are 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM.

There will be a large inventory of donated books available for sale. The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Dayton Valley Branch Library. All proceeds benefit the local branch library and the Lyon County Library System as a whole.

Training exercises help Storey County get ready for library opening

Storey County is one step closer to opening the door to its new library — while Carson City and Churchill County library staff are more efficient at their jobs — thanks to a Nevada Library Cooperative training.

Desert Born Art Project Opens At Dayton Library

Dayton, Nv. The Desert Born Art Project opened on Monday, August 29 at the Dayton Valley Branch Library. Pamela Nesbit and Donna Nelson of Smith Valley, Nv. are two local area artists that have collaborated to create very unique art by combining old objects found on the desert and repurposing the objects into art. Their work will be on display through the month of September and the first couple weeks of October of this year. The exhibit is free at the Dayton Valley Branch Library.

The Friends of the Dayton Valley Library held the first August Authors Event on Saturday, August 16 at the Dayton Valley Branch Library. There were approximately 50 attendees and the library parking lot was full. Residents of Dayton were invited to interact with five local Nevada writers, discuss their writing, purchase books and have them signed by the authors.

On Saturday, August 16 from 3-5 PM, the Friends of the Dayton Valley Library will host an author’s book discussion and sales at the Dayton Branch Library in Dayton, Nev. Wine and beer will be available for purchase. A donation of $3.00 will be asked at the door and the price of admission will entitle the patron to one glass of wine or a beer. Children are welcome for no charge as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

Sesquicentennial Quilts on Display at Dayton Library

Local members of the Carson Valley Quilt Guild took the challenge to create quilted wall hangings that celebrate Nevada’s sesquicentennial, 150 years since statehood. The wall hangings are now on display at the Dayton Branch of the Lyon County Library System.

The quilting project challenged the quilters to create a wall hanging that was small in size and utilized two selected fabrics as part of the quilt. The quilters also had to represent the theme of “Nevada, then and now—150 years of Statehood.”

Carson City Library tech training services in demand

Carson City Library continues to extend opportunities for patrons to advance their digital literacy skills by offering an array of extensive technology training classes. A calendar of librarian-led training classes and workshops is updated monthly and offers new classes based on patron demand.

Social Networking for Seniors: Learn to Engage on Social Media

Carson City Library’s Technology Trainer Molly Walt will visit the Carson City Senior Center Friday, March 7, and bring with her a @ Two Digital Learning Center workshop on the use of social networking with an emphasis on popular networking sites Facebook and Pinterest; if time allows, Twitter will also be offered.

Gap In 'Digital Divide' Losing Its Grip

Carson City Library has extended its technological reach by implementing extensive technology training in Lyon County through librarian-led training and workshop offerings that will improve digital literacy skills to all potential users in the region.
