The thaw continues around the capital city as we head into Tuesday with highs expected in the mid-50s. Events lined up feature morning and evening walks hosted by Muscle Powered, Carson City TRIAD will give a presentation at the senior center on scams targeting older adults. Also on tap, the Carson City Classic Cinema Club presents a Jimmy Stewart favorite "You Can't Take it With You" at the BAC; if you love music, there's Big-Band Jazz X2 at the Carson City Community Center, and you can join Carson Now as it celebrates its 10th anniversary at Living the Good Life.

Each year, National Read Across America Day is observed on March 2, the birthday of children’s book author Ted Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss. In celebration, many schools often dedicate an entire week as “Reading Week.” In Carson City, grade-schoolers at Fremont Elementary School got to celebrate a week prior to the observance with several community partners and local dignitaries, who visited classrooms to read to students.

On a recent holiday weekend, hundreds of visitors snapped selfies with a two-legged bear while sledding at Lake Tahoe. The “Take Care” bear mingled with families reminding them to throw away their broken sleds, rather than leaving them littered on the snow.

Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, at one point during Wednesday’s raucous presidential debate on the Las Vegas Strip, suggested her opponents take their sparring down to the MGM Grand for fight night.

The Carson City School District will host two showings of a 60-minute documentary titled "Screenagers Next Chapter — Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience" Thursday, Feb. 20, at the Bob Boldrick Theatre in the Carson City Community Center. The two showings, beginning at 5:30 and 7:00 p.m., will be free and open to the public. Parents are encouraged to bring their children.

The Carson High School Annual Talent Show was hosted earlier this week by Carson High School's Future Business Leaders of America students, with cash prizes sponsored by Adam's Hub. Funds raised by the talent show go toward state and national competitions.

Youth Theatre Carson City Brings Home National Awards and Recognitions at Musical Theatre Competition

This past weekend, Youth Theatre Carson City’s Showstoppers show choir traveled to Southern California to compete in the Musical Theatre Competitions of America 2020, a national competition with 35 teams representing 19 states and 3 countries, and brought home two major awards: 2nd place Advanced/Open Musical Revue and 3rd place Advanced/Open Ensemble Performance.

My special valentine for the past twelve years is my husband Xavier. We met when we were really young he was fifteen and I was fourteen but that did not matter because we have been together ever since. His brought laughter and joy into my life. I could not imagine life without him. Like all couples we have our highs and lows, even though at times we cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel we mange to meet in the middle and guide one another. We have build a beautiful life together and I can not wait to see what the future will hold for us! Maybe more babies? Or maybe more puppies?

My Izzy-tine

I don’t have a valentine but I have a BF who I affectionately call Izzy. Two weeks ago she was in a very serious head on collision on Highway 50. A woman was going the wrong direction on the highway. She was airlifted to Renown, is finally home and has a long recovery ahead of her. I would love to do something special for her in her time of healing, and quite frankly anytime! She is caring, loving, compassionate, giving, honest and so much more! She never asks for anything so I hope you’ll consider my story so I could surprise her with an evening out! She deserves it! Thank you!
