In their nearly 70-year marriage, Georgia and Lew Foster had never spent a single anniversary apart, and they weren’t about to break that tradition because of COVID-19.

Celebrating their 70th-wedding anniversary would require some planning and creativity on the part of Summit Estates Senior Living and Memory Care, where Lew lives, but this sort of planning is in this team’s wheelhouse.

Heading into the weekend, there’s a mountain of activities around the Carson City region over the next three days. Events include the Nevada Artists Association New Year’s Show, and there’s a historical Curry family presentation at the Nevada State Museum. Famed country rock band I See Hawks in L.A. perform at the Historic Silver City Schoolhouse on Saturday. Local artist Kingwhistler plays his first solo show in Carson City at "The Zen Den" this Saturday, May 4. Inspired by the natural beauty of the West, Kingwhistler's music is a mix of classic rock, Americana and folk.

Local musician and historian CW Bayer will be the featured speaker at Monday's Democratic luncheon.

Back by popular demand, Mr. Bayer will read from and talk about his book, "Rhymes From The Silver State," a collection of Nevada lyrics — songs and poems — reflecting both the mining era (c. 1854 to c. 1905) and the sagebrush and pine era (1905 to c. 1932). Nothing defines the historical culture of the Silver State better than these pieces.

It's parade day in Carson City, which means a host of Nevada Day activities throughout the state capital all day long.

Of course, the 80th annual Nevada Day Parade is the centerpiece of the Silver State's 154th birthday celebration.

Living the Good Life will host a fundraiser Thursday night featuring live music, food and fun, to raise money for the Francone-Smithwick family, who were involved in a fatal accident late July.

Nevada author, journalist, and poet Scott Neuffer has released his first LP rock album entitled “Perpetual Star.”

The self-produced album is being distributed worldwide by CD Baby and is available for streaming and download on iTunes, Spotify, Rhapsody, Google Play, iHeartRadio, Tidal, and other music stores. The eight tracks on the debut album have also been incorporated into a sync-licensing program through YouTube and other partners.

Consort Canzona, a select group of local instrumental musicians and singers, will be heard in two concerts commemorating the life of the group’s founder, Sharon Kientz, who died in 2015.

The concerts will be on Saturday, May 21, and Sunday, May 22, 7 p.m., at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church, 3680 Highway 395 South, Carson City, behind Best Buy. Admission is free.

Consort Canzona, a select group of local instrumentalists and singers, will present "Madrigals and Dances - A Celebration of Renaissance Music," in two concerts. The first performance is on Friday, May 15, 2015, at 7:00 p.m., at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church, 3680 Highway 395 South (behind Best Buy); the second is on Sunday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Carson City, 1250 Mountain Street. Admission is free.

This year, the United States celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' first visit to these shores. The "Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival" is excited to provide two exciting Beatles events in honor of that occasion.

More than two dozen Seeliger Elementary School first graders helped spread the good cheer Thursday morning among staff at the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

A mother of two faces 20 years in prison for her role in an armed robbery spree that spanned Reno and Carson City and ended with the murder of a local musician walking home with friends on California Avenue.

Aurora Rodriguez-Perez, 22, pleaded guilty Wednesday to the second-degree murder with a deadly weapon in the May 8 shooting death of Steven Gale.
