Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval issued a proclamation declaring October as Careers in Construction Month. The proclamation was issued, in part, due to the work done by BuildNV, an outreach arm of the Nevada Construction Collaborative to “narrow the skills gap by guiding Nevada’s youth and displaced workers toward training and opportunities that lead to long-term, rewarding careers in construction.”

Halloween is two weeks away, the Nevada Day Parade a few days before, and the 2016 election a few days after. Panasonic Energy of North America and Nevada JobConnect will host a job fair on Wednesday designed for job seekers looking for full-time employment and careers in advanced manufacturing at the Gigafactory that is now being built near Reno.

Employers are being actively sought by the Carson City Human Services Division Workforce Program to fill spaces for its September Job Fair, Workforce Case Manager Ana Gregg said.

More than 220 job seekers exchanged 533 applications and resumes Wednesday with 35 employers from Carson Valley, Carson City and Stateline at a job fair in Gardnerville hosted by Nevada JobConnect and Douglas County Social Services.

This Saturday, April 16, Max Casino in Carson City will be holding a job fair in their parking lot from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Max Casino will be looking to fill more than 100 new positions that will include all positions in the casino, hotel, bar and the new Black Bear Diner.

The Wyndham Garden Hotel, part of the Max Casino on South Carson Street, will be holding a job fair on Saturday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

According to Wyndham Sales Manager Stu Wexler, the job fair will focus on hiring mostly for the Black Bear Diner. But the event will be for all positions, including the hotel, Wexler said in a press release.

Construction of the Black Bear Diner at Max Casino on South Carson Street is in full swing, and is estimated for completion by early May, Max Casino General Manager Lee Kennedy said Tuesday.

“We’re going to push hard to get to that date,” he said. “The community has really become attached to this project. Everybody’s talking about it.”

The International Film Weekend has returned for the third year and brings a bit of multiculturalism with it. Spend the afternoon in Marlette Hall at Western Nevada College to see what some local filmmakers have created, and then head over to the Community Center for tonight’s film ‘Cherry Blossoms.’ This is a free event and just gets bigger and better. THURSDAY:

The Salvation Army will host a job fair this Thursday, Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to noon at its Family Services office: 661 Colorado St. Carson City.

The Salvation Army, which serves Carson City and Douglas County, will hire seasonal workers to help with their holiday programs such as Thanksgiving food drives, Christmas food drives, Angel Tree Christmas Toy distribution and their annual Red Kettle Campaign.

Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort are accepting applications and will host job fairs in November.

The Lake Tahoe resorts, under parent company Vail Resorts, says it will, for the first time, hire teens 15 and over who wish to work on the mountain. Teens can apply for jobs such as cashiers, ski and snowboard school teachers’ assistants, guest services representatives, parking attendants, cleaning attendants, ticket sales and scanning.
