Nevada Governor Sandoval declares October Careers in Construction Month

The proclamation was issued, in part, due to the work done by BuildNV, an outreach arm of the Nevada Construction Collaborative to “narrow the skills gap by guiding Nevada’s youth and displaced workers toward training and opportunities that lead to long-term, rewarding careers in construction.”

Learn more about our local races during the Chamber of Commerce Candidate Forum today at noon. It will be streaming live right here on CarsonNow.org. Kids will enjoy the Makerspace at the Carson City Library where they can get their hands on some fun, yet educational, activities. Advocates to End Domestic Violence is holding a week long toiletry drive beginning today: donations will be accepted at Classy Seconds Thrift Shop and are much appreciated.

CCAI brings us a Nevada Neighbors talk with one of the artists featured in the Nevada Museum of Art. The Wired Wednesday group has a workshop for filmmakers in time for the upcoming creepy film festival and competition. Local candidates can be found at the BAC Performance Hall in the first of three voters' forums. It's hard to miss the new 'Home Means Nevada' mural on the side of CAL Ranch at Winnie Lane; the opening ceremony for our newest piece of art is at 2 p.m.
FoodMaxx looks to fill 70 positions for Carson City store at Tuesday job fair

The discount grocery store, which will go into the former Save Mart location, is hiring 70 employees for its Carson City store and another 70 for its Sparks location.

According to Wyndham Sales Manager Stu Wexler, the job fair will focus on hiring mostly for the Black Bear Diner. But the event will be for all positions, including the hotel, Wexler said in a press release.
Max Casino: Black Bear opening targeted for May

“We’re going to push hard to get to that date,” he said. “The community has really become attached to this project. Everybody’s talking about it.”

The International Film Weekend has returned for the third year and brings a bit of multiculturalism with it. Salvation Army hosts Christmas job fair this Thursday

The Salvation Army, which serves Carson City and Douglas County, will hire seasonal workers to help with their holiday programs such as Thanksgiving food drives, Christmas food drives, Angel Tree Christmas Toy distribution and their annual Red Kettle Campaign.
Lake Tahoe area ski resorts look for winter employees; to host job fairs Nov. 6-7

The Lake Tahoe resorts, under parent company Vail Resorts, says it will, for the first time, hire teens 15 and over who wish to work on the mountain. Teens can apply for jobs such as cashiers, ski and snowboard school teachers’ assistants, guest services representatives, parking attendants, cleaning attendants, ticket sales and scanning.
