Fishing report through Nov. 2

Here is the fishing report for the week of Oct. 26 to Nov. 2. This report covers rivers, streams and lakes in Nevada, the Sierra, Northern California and Southern Oregon.

July 4 at Nevada State Railroad Museum

This morning at the Nevada State Railroad Museum, the boys have all the toys out of the barn, including the Inyo steam engine and the McKeen motor car. There's also antique cars on display, a Civil War re-enactment and live period music. A great way to start the day before the fireworks. Have a happy 4th.

Here is the fishing report for Western Nevada, Northern California and the Sierra for the week of April 27. Opening Day for fishing on California lakes and streams is April 30.

Water surface temperatures are at 44.7 degrees and water clarity has improved in most areas to 6.5 to 7.5 feet.
Lake Almanor looks great, and the bite has really picked up.

Outdoors with Don Q: April 30 is the Opening Day of the California fishing season

OK Gang, it’s almost time to have fun in the High Sierras once again. In just 10 days on April 30, the 2011 fishing season will open for applicable lakes, reservoirs, streams, creeks and rivers in the State of California, plus all of the applicable waters in Inyo and Mono Counties. That season will then remain open until Tuesday, Nov. 15.

If you’re new to the area, here’s some information that can be useful if you would like to try your hand at fishing on that Opening Day or Weekend:

Reminder of Winter Classic Trout Derby

By the Bishop Area Chamber of Commerce
The Bishop Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitors bureau would like to remind everyone that there are just a few weeks left in the new Winter Classic Trout Derby.

Thanks to grant funding provided by Inyo County, the Chamber has contracted with Inland Aquaculture to purchase and plant specially tagged Alpers Trout in Pleasant Valley Reservoir and Lower Owens River.

Nancy Gibson to lead Forest Service at Lake Tahoe; Jeff Marsolais to serve as deputy

The U.S. Forest Service Region 5 has named Nancy Gibson as the new Forest Supervisor for the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.

Gibson has been the Deputy Forest Supervisor on the Six Rivers National Forest for nearly three years. Previously, she served as the Administrative Officer on the Klamath National Forest. She also served as Acting Forest Supervisor on the Mendocino National Forest in 2009. Gibson holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Southern Oregon University.
