The Nevada Division of Insurance is excited to announce the launch of its Fall Health Insurance Awareness campaign. The month of October is a good time to begin thinking about a 2016 health insurance policy.

Open Enrollment is just around the corner starting Nov. 1 and running through Jan. 31, 2016. That is why the Division of Insurance is officially kicking off a pre-enrollment campaign to turn consumers into insurance experts before Open Enrollment begins.

With the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, more Nevadans than ever now have health insurance coverage. One of the covered benefits is the provision of preventative health services and treatment for most illnesses. With so many Nevadans having coverage, the primary health care system has been overwhelmed with people trying to access services.

This is a letter I sent out to Gov. Sandoval, and multiple other State Representatives. I felt that the general public should know what our prison system is doing to multiple small business owners in Carson City and Nevada. I would be very pleased if someone would bring this to light and show what our tax dollars are doing in this economy.

Dear Governor Sandoval,

Of course you need to consider the financial aspects of living in retirement. But thinking about when to retire is also important. First there is being emotionally ready. For some folks, their work provides a sense of fulfillment.

Our Congress is broken. It's dysfunctional. It's confused. It's Illogical. I know. "It is all the other Senators and Congressmen and women's fault, not mine." WRONG! This year, AARP Foundation is again providing free tax assistance and preparation for taxpayers with low to moderate income through the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program. AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, in its 48th year, is the nation’s largest free tax assistance and preparation service, giving special attention the older population. You do not need to be a member of AARP or a retiree to use this service.

The Affordable Care Act's current open enrollment period ends February 15. If you do not have coverage, you will face a tax penalty. Nevada Primary Care Association will have Certified Enrollment Facilitators available to assist you to find a health plan from the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange that best meets your needs. Get help getting covered and be prepared for unexpected health challenges. The facilitators will be in the Sierra room at the Carson City Community Center on Saturday, the 7th of February from 10:00AM - 4:00PM.

The Affordable Care Act is factoring in to a lot of tax returns this year. Some people are being penalized for not bothering to get health insurance, while others are seeing that a raise in income means they have to pay those subsidies they originally got...back. And that all happens on your tax return.

Mr. President, Mr. Speaker, Distinguished Members of the Legislature, Honorable Justices of the Supreme Court, Constitutional Officers:

According to a report released Tuesday by the Department of Health and Human Services, 40,285 people in Nevada selected plans through the Health Insurance Marketplace leading up to the Dec. 15 deadline for coverage beginning Jan. 1, 2015.

About 90 percent of Nevadans who selected health insurance plans in the first month of open enrollment were determined eligible for financial assistance to lower their monthly premiums. All of the 40,285 Nevadans who selected a plan signed up for the first time.

Nevada will receive up to $2 million to design health care payment and service delivery models that will improve health care quality and lower costs, Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia M. Burwell announced Tuesday.

The CHS Ski Team will be hosting the latest Warren Miller Film, “No Turning Back” on Dec. 12, 7 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Tickets can be purchased from any ski team member or from their advisor Adrienne Schneider.

Tickets are $8 for students and $12 for adults. They are also selling raffle tickets in conjunction with the movie. A multiple of prizes are available that evening at the showing of the film. Raffle tickets cost $1 each or 25 tickets for $20. Doors open at 6 PM.

Miss Friday's free flu shot in Carson City? There's another planned for Saturday, Nov. 8 in Minden. Douglas County Emergency Management and Carson City Health and Human Services, along with several community partners, including the Douglas County Healthcare Coalition, are hosting the free drive-through flu vaccination clinic.

Citizens are invited to stop by the GE Bently parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a free flu vaccination. Vehicle staging will begin on Bently Parkway off Buckeye Road. The address is 1631 Bently Parkway South.

When I’m asked about Obamacare, I use it as an opportunity to show how much difference progressive change can make. Open enrollment began one year ago, on October 1st, 2013. The websites had a rocky rollout, but 10.3 million Americans who had no health insurance a year ago now have coverage.

I recently received an overly large mailer from PK O'Neill, a candidate for Assembly District 40. What he says is disturbing. He pontificates without solutions. He seems more concerned with cliches than real issues.

Carson City – The Nevada Division of Insurance announced Tuesday the launch of its new smartphone app NDOI Connect and the Health Insurance website NVInsurance101.com.

“We are thrilled to offer NDOI Connect free of charge,” said Commissioner Scott J. Kipper. “This consumer oriented smartphone app will allow Nevadans to connect with the Division of Insurance in ways that have never been available before.”

Now this is news. The Washington, D.C. Circuit Court’s recent ruling against the IRS may spell the end of Individual Mandates for Health Insurance (and individual penalties for not having qualified health insurance) and the Employer Mandates for companies with over 50 employees (and the corresponding penalties for not complying)…IF a state did NOT set up a State Health Exchange.

Proposed 2015 health insurance for individual and small group markets in Nevada are now available online, state Insurance Commissioner Scott J. Kipper announced Thursday. The proposed rates are for plans sold both on and off Nevada’s health insurance exchange.
