Carson City man arrested on kidnapping, sexual assault charges

An unemployed Carson City man wanted on felony sexual assault and kidnapping charges was arrested at a motel room in the 200 block of West Caroline on Tuesday morning.

Brandon Hicks, 18, is being held on $200,000 bail. A warrant for his arrest was issued on March 25 in Carson City Justice Court on the alleged felony crimes of first degree kidnapping, battery with intent to commit sexual assault committed by strangulation and sexual assault.

CARSON CITY – Assemblyman Kelly Kite, R-Minden, learned he may have broken a law yesterday during a Commerce and Labor committee hearing.
The committee was debating a bill about the interstate sale of rifles and shotguns. Current law bans the interstate sale of those guns in states that do not have a border with Nevada.

State worker launches budget deficit plan, issues challenge to economists

Carl Kuhl, a state Parole and Probation employee of six years, has created a plan that he claims will eliminate Nevada's budget deficit within two years.

In a news release issued on Tuesday, Kuhl said his plan not only will reduce the budget deficit but also help repair Nevada's economy at the same time. It is a pretty big claim, he admits, coming from an Accounting Assistant I, an entry level position.

Several Tahoe ski resorts to open this weekend

A handful of Lake Tahoe ski resorts prepare to open for the season this weekend thanks to an early snowfall, snowmaking guns and a fairly large storm set to punch the Sierra.

Around a foot or more of natural snow across the Sierra earlier this month certainly helped get things moving. With this weekend's anticipated storm, which may bring anywhere from 2-4 feet of snow to the Sierra, resorts should get a nice healthy boost just in time for the holiday season.

10 arrested in major Northern Nevada drug bust

A major drug operation east of Carson City was brought down late Tuesday with 10 arrests, two being juveniles, the Nevada Department of Public Safety reports.

The bust happened at around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and involved multiple law enforcement agencies that resulted in the execution of four search warrants and 10 arrests and the confiscation of 1502 grams of drugs, including more than three pounds of methamphetamine.

Guns allowed in Nevada park system after AG lawsuit deal

A deal was struck that allows registered firearm owners to take their guns into Nevada's state parks, reports the Las Vegas Sun. The lawsuit was brought on in July by a Colorado-based Second Amendment foundation.

Dozens of burglary victims look for stolen goods at Carson City viewing

Victims by the dozens arrived at the Carson City Sheriff's Office this morning hoping to find what was stolen from them after authorities cracked a burglary ring earlier this month that is believed to have started a year ago.

Sifting through hundreds of items such as iPods, laptops, CDs, DVDs, guns, tools and guitars, many of the victims said they were hopeful they could place positive identifications on what had been taken from them.

A 20-year-old unemployed Carson City man faces felony larceny charges after he stole a firearm from a capital city weapons dealer because he "needed money."

Jonathan Crandell Jr. faces a felony charge of larceny of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon after he and two friends walked into Wilburs Guns and Knives on Goni Road and walked out with the a Sig Arms P232 hand gun, according to the arrest report.

Legislative Commission’s Subcommittee to Discuss “Real ID” in Nevada

The Legislative Commission’s Subcommittee to Review Regulations will meet tomorrow afternoon to discuss the fate of the controversial “Real ID” in Nevada.
Citing concerns with both privacy and cost, numerous organizations have come out against the requirements of the REAL ID Act of 2005 including the ACLU, Americans for Tax Reform, Gun Owners of America, Gun Owners of Nevada, Campaign for Liberty, the Cato Institute, National Immigration Law Center and the National Network to End Domestic Violence.
