27th Carson City Rendezvous continues through Sunday
Mills Park in Carson City was transformed this weekend into a scene right out of U.S. History. This year's Carson City Rendezvous celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Pony Express.
The event features Native American dancing, stage coach rides, arts and crafts, a gun march, train rides, entertainment and food vendors. The Pony Express made its way through Carson City on Wednesday. To learn more about the Pony Express and its history in Nevada, click here.
Native American dancing is put on by the Washoe Tribe of Nevada. Different ages participate in the dance. They put on a beautiful performance dressed in their traditional tribal clothing.
“The event is going great,” said Ambra Aiello one of the attendees. “My favorite part of the Rendezvous is The Native American dance and all the great food.”
The arts and crafts consist of different things. There are handmade jewelry, guns, knifes, swords, wind chimes, clothing, hand bags and many other handmade items.
The gun march is a re-enactment of a real gun march that took place in the civil war. A group of men march around the park in Civil War-period clothing with guns held to there side. Some are holding American and Confederate flags.
“I’ve participated in the Carson City Rendezvous for 10 years,” said Ken, one of the participants. “Every year we seem to get more people. It’s growing.”
The train ride is an interesting experience. It takes you in a circle around Mills Park. Just before the train turns to go into the station an old western bandit pretends to rob the train then a sheriff comes to stop him, they get into a gun fight then the sheriff shoots the bandit and saves the day.
Entertainment features western music, comedy and tricks. A free concert was held Saturday night by David John & The Comstock Cowboys. Tricks were performed by a western comedian Karen Quest.
The Food vendors offer many different cuisines, from Mexican food to Native American food. There is much to choose from.
The Rendezvous runs through Sunday at Mills Park. It’s a wonderful event for the whole family. There is something for everyone.
