Submitted by Jeff Munson on Wed, 07/31/2019 - 12:37pmToday, as I was doing a yoga class at Carson City Yoga, my thoughts drifted to the concept of “home.” There are dozens of clichés about home. Home is where the heart is. Home is where you make it. But how does one actively create a home?

Submitted by editor on Mon, 07/29/2019 - 3:53pmAs Thomas Paine professed, "These are the times that try men's souls." Thomas must be spinning like a lathe. The framers of the Constitution had George Washington in mind when they entrusted authority to the office of chief executive. The framers could not have imagined a Donald Trump, even with stimulants.

What Works: Ego, Leadership, and the Circle of Life

When “Moana” came out, I wrote three columns talking about the themes in that movie. (You can find those columns by typing my name in the search bar).

What’s Going On and Why Aren’t People Happy? (Opinion)
Submitted by Carson Now Reader on Wed, 07/17/2019 - 5:59am“Job growth was about 227,000 in June but 46 percent of the people surveyed say they are not better off. Democrats claim the 50 percent growth of the stock market does not help the common people because most do not invest in stocks, except those with 401(k) plans. But the stock market indicates companies are willing to invest, which leads to job growth. Please explain.”
A thoughtful reader’s good points.

What Works: Fiercely independent? Here’s how to ask for help
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Tue, 07/02/2019 - 1:20pmI have been described as fiercely independent. For years, I have forged my own path — proudly so. I’d tap by feet along to anthems for independent women and cheer myself on. My independence became a badge of honor. And why shouldn’t it be? It was hard one. In some ways, I had to battle for it. But being solo also had a side effect, I struggled in asking for help. “I can do it” became a mantra for me. When I had a short fall, I would hide it instead of asking for support. In business, you see it happening as siloing.

I proceeded to throw my expectations out the window and delight in what I got. Unfortunately, what I got was all over the place. It was unfocused. It was sometimes unacceptable.
