Carson City sheriff reports stabbing victim at house party taken to hospital

A 22-year-old Carson City man was stabbed and suffered a puncture to the lungs in a fight that happened at a New Year's Eve house party on Rex Circle late Monday night, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong reports.

The man, Adam Gaudette, was flown by Care Flight and was at last report in stable condition, said Furlong. Arrested was Leo Reyes Jacinto, 33, who faces a charge of battery with a deadly weapon. He is being held on $30,000 bail.

Outdoors with Don Q: A few more days left to fish many California waters

This my annual reminder that many California waters will close to fishing on Thursday, November 15.
That’s only a few days from now, so if you want to fish any of them, you better hustle because you are rapidly running out of time.
Those waters will not re-open until the last Saturday in April next year (April 27, 2013), and that is a long, long time to wait to wet your line.
Here is a partial list of some of the nearby waters that will be closing on November 15:

Nevada Posts 26th Consecutive Taxable Sales Increase In August

CARSON CITY – Nevada recorded its 26th consecutive month of taxable sales increases in August, when consumers spent $3.7 billion on goods and services for a 7.6 percent jump over August 2011, the state Department of Taxation reported today.

The last decrease in statewide taxable sales came in June 2010, when a 0.3 percent decline was reported over June 2009.

Taxable sales grew by 8.1 percent in Clark County and jumped double-digits in Washoe County to 10.5 percent.

Nevada’s Jobless Rate Declines To 11.8 Percent In September

CARSON CITY – Nevada’s unemployment rate fell to 11.8 percent in September, a decline of three-tenths of a percentage point from the 12.1 percent rate reported for August and a significant improvement from September 2011’s reading of 13.6 percent, a state agency reported today.

The seasonally-adjusted rate remains above the 11.6 percent figure reported in May, which was a three-year low.

Nevada Records Two Straight Years Of Taxable Sales Increases With 7.9 Percent Gain In June

CARSON CITY – Nevada recorded two straight years of increases in taxable sales through June, with a statewide gain of 7.9 percent over June 2011, the state Department of Taxation reported today.

Taxable sales totaled $3.9 billion in June compared to $3.6 billion in June 2011. For the 2012 fiscal year, taxable sales rose 7.6 percent over 2011.

Clark County taxable sales were up 8.9 percent in June and Washoe County saw a 3 percent gain.

Nevada’s Unemployment Rate Jumps In July Even As Jobs Are Added

CARSON CITY – After hitting a three-year low in May and June, Nevada’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate jumped four-tenths of a percentage point in July to 12 percent, the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) reported today.

Broader Measure Of Unemployment Shows Continued Improvement In Nevada But Still Above 20 Percent

CARSON CITY – A broader measure of Nevada’s unemployment picture, including those who have given up looking for work, showed slight but continued improvement through the second quarter of 2012, a federal report released today shows.

Bonkowski wants to call attention to the freeway opening, saying it is good news for Carson City. The faster commute time between Carson City and the I-80 manufacturing corridor will help the area attract small manufacturing and industrial businesses.

Nevada Gaming Win Plummets In May By Double Digits, Down 18.2 Percent on Strip

CARSON CITY – Nevada gaming revenues took a big tumble in May, shrinking by nearly $100 million over the same month a year ago to $885 million for a 10.1 percent decline, the state Gaming Control Board reported today.

Nevada Taxable Sales Sees Modest But Solid Gain In April

CARSON CITY – Nevada’s taxable sales climbed by 5.1 percent in April over April 2011, continuing a 22 consecutive month trend of positive numbers for the important economic indicator, the state Department of Taxation reported this week.

The $3.5 billion in taxable purchases in April were buoyed by double-digit gains in several major categories, including construction; up 16.1 percent, merchant wholesalers-durable goods, up 10.2 percent; and motor vehicle and parts dealers, up 10.5 percent.

Fish are active and conditions are perfect.
The surface temps are averaging 59 degrees, and climbing to 61.5 degrees by midday. Clarity is very good, to 13.5 ft. Still cool enough on the surface to still be holding some nice Kings on the west side. 2 salmon were caught trolling Almanor West up to 2 lbs.
Trolling has been more effective than bait fishing deep holes and should remain that way until surface temps really spike. Like above 65 degrees.

Obama Visits Reno, Urges Congress To Expand Mortgage Refinancing Program

RENO – President Barack Obama made a brief stopover here today, visiting with a couple who refinanced their home through a White House initiative helping underwater homeowners who have government-backed loans.

After meeting with Paul and Valerie Keller, Obama urged Congress to expand the Home Affordable Refinancing Program (HARP) to other mortgages as well.

With Saturday's opening day of fishing on California waters, you'll need to possess the proper 2012 license to be legal. You can purchase the license and any applicable stamp(s) at a number of local outlets or on the Internet. If you need to buy them, here is some info:

Annual Licenses:
The 2012 non-resident annual fishing license is $120.14, and it is good through December 31, 2012.
Yipes! $120.14 for a California Non-Resident annual fishing license!

Daily Licenses:
A one-day resident or non-resident license is $14.30.
