Ross clothing stores to help Carson City area kids in homework campaign

Ross Stores, Inc. announced that it is partnering with Boys and Girls Clubs of America with a four-week program called, “Help Local Kids Learn.” Beginning Saturday, Feb. 4, customers in Carson City can make a monetary contribution at their local Ross Dress for Less location during checkout to be donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada this February.

The Change Place in Carson City is no ordinary gym. In fact, it’s not a gym at all, said Don Kuhl, who co-owns the business with his wife, Sherry Newsom.

Ron Wood Family Resource Center works with families in need of fresh diapers everyday. The cost of diapers is a struggle for many of our community members. Nicole Hembree and a community of concerned helpers decided to bring awareness to the diaper need for our babies and toddlers.

Carson City author launches crowdfunding campaign for entrepreneurship children’s book series

Carson City author and entrepreneur, Jeff Glass, launched a crowdfunding campaign via Indiegogo this week to raise funds for publishing his new children’s book series on social entrepreneurship. The campaign can be found here.

Glass, who describes himself as a “serial entrepreneur,” is known in Northern Nevada for teaching social entrepreneurship to local youth through the Carson City Juvenile Probation Office and formerly through the Hop and Mae Adams Foundation. He is currently the executive director for the Youth Entrepreneur Syndicate in Reno.

Scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs and Shriner's hospital each given large donations from estate of Northern Nevada woman

The generosity of one Northern Nevada resident will be providing for many young people and their activities for years to come. The Estate of Esther Schwarzer gave the Nevada Area Council of Boy Scouts of America a check for nearly $121,000 to use for programs benefiting Scouting. Receiving identical checks were the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada and Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

Carson City Grocery Outlet partners with FISH, community members to fight hunger

Grocery Outlet launched its 6th annual Independence From Hunger Food Drive on Friday, a campaign where customers can donate food throughout July to local community service groups and food banks.

In Carson City, Grocery Outlet has teamed up with Friends In Service Helping, also known as FISH, and will be collecting donations now through the end of July that will go directly to FISH.

Senator Square: Carson High School prepares for 2016 graduation

Graduation for the class of 2016 is Saturday, June 4, and the ceremony begins at 10 a.m. on the Carson High School football field in Carson City.

One last photo opportunity will happen the morning of graduation. This is the photo of everyone together wearing caps and gowns. The 2016 senior class photo will be taken in the gym, so all seniors must arrive at the school, and meet in the gym by 8:45 a.m.

Pets of the Homeless Receives a Top Honor in Nevada Business Magazine’s Family Owned Business Awards

Carson City-based Pets of the Homeless, the only national nonprofit organization that is focused on feeding and providing emergency veterinary care to pets of homeless people, was recognized for their outstanding achievements as a family owned business and for making significant contributions to the community and giving back.

New brewery coming to Carson City

If the shoe fits, then wear it.

For brothers Jeff and Paul Young of Carson City, becoming professional brewers just seemed to fit like the right pair of sneakers.

Their company, the Shoe Tree Brewing Company, is scheduled to break ground on its roughly 2,000 square-foot brewery and retail space Monday on the Carson Hot Springs Resort property located at 1500 Old Hot Springs Road in Carson City.

Toys For Tots celebrates successful 2015 campaign

Semper fidelis is more than just the motto of the United States Marine Corps (USMC). It is a phrase to live by. Every year since 1948, the USMC has faithfully delivered Christmas joy to millions of needy children around the country.
That faithfulness will stand to benefit around 3,000 children this year in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey counties.

Carson-Tahoe Health helps Santa create a happy holiday with local youth

What initially began as a holiday party for Carson Tahoe Health employees and their families has grown to include organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada through the efforts of the CTH events committee headed by Kayleen Fogleman, director of supply chain management.

CTH provided treats and activities, including decorating enormous sugar cookies, writing letters to Santa, mingling with Carson City firefighters and a visit with Santa at the annual Carson Tahoe Health Kids Christmas Party in the main hall of the hospital Dec. 10.

RAM to Hold Free Medical, Dental and Vision Clinic in Carson City

Dr. Heather Parsons of Valley Pediatric Dentistry to volunteer at the upcoming Remote Area Medical (RAM) event in Carson City. RAM is a non-profit organization providing free medical, dental and vision services to patients. The upcoming Carson City event will run October 16th, 2015 thru October 18th, 2015.

Grocery Outlet customers fill 160 bags of food, donate nearly $1,400 in July hunger drive

Grocery Outlet in Carson City held its 5th Annual Independence From Hunger Food Drive through July with customers donating 160 bags of groceries and giving $1,387 in cash to a local food bank.

This year's recipient of the donations was the Dayton Food Pantry. Freida Carbery, volunteer coordinator for Healthy Communities Coalition, which operates the Dayton Food Pantry, was at the Carson City Grocery Outlet Store this week and extended her thanks to store owners David and Lynne Cox, employees and the Carson City community.
