The state capital's rich, spooky, and intriguing history was explored Saturday during the Carson City Ghost Walk.

The Harvest Train at the Nevada Railroad Museum is a fun treat for kids of all ages. It’s time for the annual all-day downtown Ghost Walk. From 10 a.m.

GENOA, Nev. – Get your spook on at Mormon Station State Historic Park in historic Genoa, Nevada for a fun-filled family event. Share this chilly fall day with your favorite ghosts and ghouls as you enjoy a hot off the grill hot dog, gourmet popcorn and cider bar.

Carson City’s rich and intriguing history will be explored and theatrically relived this Saturday with two themed Carson City Ghost Walks.

There have been quite a few exciting changes to downtown this year. Today we celebrate the grand opening of the Union Carson eatery, taphouse and coffee bar with a ribbon cutting and tasty fundraiser. $20 gets you a few hours of food, beer and wine, and great live music, and it’s all for a great cause. Artist Adrienne Harrington is the star of this evening’s reception at Artsy Fartsy Art Gallery. The Gold Hill Hotel hosts a weekly lecture series: learn more about the near-by historical ghost town, Bodie, while enjoying a meal. Hoops with Heroes at Dayton High School pits the varsity and j.v.

Members of the Carson City Leisure Hour Club will learn of the loves and losses of Julia Bulette, renowned resident of Virginia City, at their dinner meeting on Wednesday, October 18.

Bulette’s murder began a manhunt that last over a year and resulted in the arrest, trial, and the April 24, 1869 execution of John Millian.

In what was the largest gathering of people in Nevada up to that time, 3,000 to 4,000 people were present at the hanging.

With all the motorcycles on the road, you may be looking for some peace and quiet. Luckily, it’s fee-free day at all of the Nevada State Parks. Load up the kids, pack a picnic, at head to the great outdoors. Don’t miss out on the last-of-the-season Farmers Market at Third and Curry, stock up on local honey and load your basket with yummy stuff. Oktoberfest takes over the McFadden Plaza at 3 p.m. Bavarian and German beers, authentic food, and live music await. Keep reading for everything the area has to offer.

Nevada residents and visitors are invited to celebrate Nevada Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 30, with a “fee-free” day at Nevada’s State Parks. Park fees, including entrance, camping on Saturday night, and boating, where applicable, will be waived at state parks throughout Nevada.

Enjoy these September days, it will be blustery and cold before we know it. Celebrate our neighbor to the east during their annual Dayton Valley Days street festival. Tour their museums, pan for gold, and enjoy samples at their Chili cook-off. Downtown Carson is a hotbed of fun tonight with two pub crawls and the Ghost Walk Haunted History Tour. Make this weekend something special. School starts up on Monday and it will be Halloween before we blink an eye. The Carl Howell Memorial Music Festival at Battle Born Harley boasts a full day of live music, vendors, activities and family fun. Bowers Mansion plays host to the annual Bluegrass Festival – bring a picnic and enjoy. Downtown Carson City will see the first of three monthly Beer Crawls; if you get there early, head over to Remedy’s to witness their yearly Bloody Mary Competition. There is something for everyone this weekend, so keep reading and find your fun.

Summer weekends make me wish I had a clone. With all the hustle and bustle in town, there is just no way to do and see it all. Start the day at the Silver Dollar Car Classic and you can get your fill of shiny chrome and breakfast, too; the Kiwanis will be serving up pancakes until 10:30 a.m. The Downtown Carson City Wine Walk has been infiltrated by the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival. Several of the stops will be hosting musicians, in addition to vino.

It’s almost like Christmas Day for some of us locals: the long awaited Taste of Downtown has finally arrived. Food, drink, live music, rubbing elbows with friends and neighbors, and a new wine-tasting add-on make this one of the best parties of the year. The morning brings an unparalleled opportunity: you’ve got one chance to walk, run, or bike right down the middle of the freeway before the new bypass is open to vehicle traffic alone. Grab your favorite four-legged friend and head to Adele’s: Dining for Dog Town is a delicious way to help out this amazing rescue organization.

Where else in the world can you traverse a forest composed entirely of dilapidated and half-buried cars, photograph a plaster ghost riding a bicycle next to a giant metal penguin and miner, admire eloquent murals depicting history, and watch 30-foot flames shoot from the antennae of a giant metal praying mantis? Nevada, of course. And the 2017 Nevada Magazine Silver State Scavenger Hunt is the perfect way to do it.

What are you in the mood for? The Third and Curry Farmers Market is always a great place to start off your weekend. Kids won’t mind getting up early for the Young Eagle airplane flights at the Carson City Airport – they are free of charge for kids 8 – 17, you just need to be on time for registration. The Annual Chili Cook-off returns to Glen Eagles this weekend; with live music, a craft fair, and lots of yummy stuff to eat, raising money for Honor Flight has never tasted so good. Promoting Carson City’s paranormal, improving blighted spaces and creating mountain bike destinations are among the projects the Carson City Visitors Bureau is lining up with help from Travel Nevada.

The weekends seem to start earlier in summertime. Head down to Mills Park for the first of the rat-rods rolling in for this weekend’s Rockabilly Riot and to catch the motorcycle cops running some practice loops around the obstacle course. Seniors can head to the Community Center for vouchers good at the Third and Curry Farmers Market, residency and income restrictions apply. Join Mo’z Motley Blues on the lawn of the Dangberg Home Historic Ranch for a summer twilight concert – bring a chair or blanket, I suggest some bug spray and a picnic, as well.

THURSDAY:

The weekend hasn’t even started, and I’m already exhausted just trying to decide what to do first! Live music, races, activities, and much more await you downtown as part of the Carson City Off-Road. Stewart Indian School is awash in bright colors, beadwork, and dancers from all across the country during their annual Fathers’ Day Pow Wow. Congratulations to the Show Tree Brewing Company by the Carson Hot Springs; their big grand opening bash includes multiple bands. Keep reading – this weekend has a whole lot to offer.

If you happen to be up very early on Saturday morning, you may just see some runners in the pre-dawn hours. The Reno-Tahoe Odyssey, a 178 mile relay, passes through Carson City on its way to Virginia City. A huge congratulations goes out to the Class of 2017; the Carson High graduates will get their diplomas today. It’s wine walk weekend, so downtown will be hopping with sippers, strollers, and plenty of summer fun. Keep reading, and you’re sure to find something to make this weekend special.

As the weather warms up, people begin to daydream about the ideal summer. Phrases like “best summer ever” and “#Summer2k17” get thrown around. To ensure those dreams live up to expectations, Nevada has put together a summer bucket list for adventurers, explorers and travelers of all types.

Nevada residents and visitors are invited to “Discover Nevada State Parks” on Saturday, June 10. Park visitors will receive free day use admission and free fishing — no license required — at all of Nevada’s 23 State Parks.

VIRGINIA CITY — Lara Mather, Executive Director of the Historic Fourth Ward School Museum, will offer a program on the history, restoration, exhibits and archives at the museum, as part of the Gold Hill Hotel’s Friday Night Showcase at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4. The Historic Fourth Ward School Museum is a crown jewel on the Comstock.

After an action-packed Nevada Day Saturday, Sunday traditions carry on, such as the 35th Annual La Ka Lel Be Pow Wow at the Carson Colony gym. Take the kids up to Virginia City for one last chance to catch Thomas the Tank Engine at the V & T Depot. It may be a little rainy, but the show must go on at the NV Day Carnival and Festival at Mills Park.
