Women to Women celebrates 150th episode with landscape planner Mary Fischer

The 150th episode of Women to Women features Mary Fischer of Carson City. She and her husband are the owners of the Cottonwood RV Park and have lived in Carson City for many years.

Mary was the President of "Gardeners Reclaiming our Waysides" (G.R.O.W.) she was instrumental in planning the landscaping and artwork along Carson City's overpasses and coordinating the historic art work along the freeway corridor with a Colorado artist.

Carson City's Karen Abowd, Mary Fischer honored with Girl Scouts of Sierra Nevada Triumphant Award

Carson City residents Karen Abowd and Mary Fischer, will be honored tonight at The Atlantis Hotel and Casino, when they receive the Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada’s 2013 TRIUMPHANT Awards.

Karen Abowd will receive the Environmental Leader award for her work with The Greenhouse Project, a non-profit community greenhouse located on Carson High School’s campus that teaches sustainability and new agricultural principals and produces food for the community. Mary Fischer will receive the Community Service award for her work with Gardeners Reclaiming Our Waysides (G.R.O.W.), a non-profit she founded in 1997 with the purpose of beautifying area roadways using landscaping and art.

Carson City 'History in Motion' Lecture on Thursday, Sept. 19

Carson City Historical Society presents a free lecture "Carson City's History in Motion" by Mary Fischer on Thursday, Sept. 19 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The lecture will be at The Business Resource Innovation Center, The BRIC, which is a partnership of Carson City Library, Office of Business Development, Building, Engineering, Planning, and Business Licensing, at 108 E. Proctor St.

Mary Fischer will present a free lecture called "Carson City's History in Motion" on Thursday, Sept. 19 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at BRIC (Business Resource Innovation Center) at 108 East Proctor Street. Mrs. Fisher is from GROW (Gardeners Reclaiming Our Waysides).

Carson City Shade Tree Council to recognize GROW at Arbor Day ceremony

Arbor Day 2013 in Carson City will be on April 26, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Fulstone Park. This year's event will recognize Gardeners Reclaiming Our Waysides (or GROW for short) with its landscaping efforts along the Carson City freeway.

In November 2012 GROW was recognized as Carson City's "Organization of the Year" at the city's Parks and Recreation annual awards ceremony held in partnership with the Foundation for the Betterment of Carson City and the Carson City Historical Society.

Monday is Carson City Parks and Recreation Awards Recognition

The Foundation for the Betterment of Carson City Parks and Recreation will be presenting awards to its 2012 recipients of its Special Recognition Awards in a brief ceremony on Monday, Nov. 7, at 3:00 p.m. at the monument at the entrance to the Pony Express Pavilion in Mills Park. The public is invited to attend this free event.

The awards will be presented in the following categories:

Volunteer of the Years - Greg Davis - True leader in youth sports in general and YSA and youth soccer specifically.

Carson City Transportation Commission moves forward with projects
