Windy Carson City morning

Carson City Public Works tech Jason Moore puts loose limbs into a wood chipper this morning on King Street. High winds overnight and early this morning of nearly 50 mph on the west side of town to more than 70 mph just outside the city limits blew lots of dead and dying tree limbs and debris to the ground, public works reported.

Carson City Sheriff's Office reports some calls were made to the department regarding downed trees. One large tree limb smashed into a fence and blocked part of the road at Ash Canyon and Ormsby. Public Works removed the debris earlier this morning.

New-look Capital Classic set for Saturday

Eleven schools will be represented when Carson High hosts the Capital Classic track and field meet on Saturday.
The meet, which will mark the season home opener for Carson's varsity team, is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. with the throwing events and 9 a.m. with the running events. Northern 4A schools Galena, Damonte Ranch, North Valleys, Douglas and Carson will be joined in the field by North Tahoe, Incline, Whittell, Rite of Passage, Tonopah and Sierra Lutheran.

The heat is on for CHS

RENO – For the Carson High baseball team, the heat is on. But to CHS coach Cody Farnworth, the heat is always on.
"It's on every week," said Farnworth after his team was swept in a doubleheader on Saturday at Galena, losing the opener 10-1 and the nightcap 8-5. "It doesn't change."

Senators blow away bad memories from day before

RENO -- On a day when the wind was gusting up to 40 mph, coupled with occasional rain and snow flurries, Carson High softball coach Scott Vickrey knew better than to expect an ordinary game against Galena.
"I told the kids nothing would be routine today, and the team that puts the ball in play the most would walk out of here with a win," Vickrey said.

CHS team optimistic

The errors are continuing, but there now seems to be a silver lining for this young Carson High baseball team. It's about as optimistic as a team could be after making six errors.
Even the Senators' former coach, Ron McNutt, who now coaches Galena sees the potential of the young CHS team after his Grizzlies beat Carson 8-2 on Thursday at the field named after him at Carson High.
"Nothing's going to happen but good things for them," McNutt said. "They're going to get better. They're going to be a good ball club."

Miscues sink Senators in loss against Galena

To look at the box score, one inning was decisive for the Carson High softball team in its 8-3 loss at home against Galena on Thursday.
Galena did score five runs in the sixth inning -- three of which came on one hit that resulted in two errors -- to erase a 3-2 deficit en route to the Sierra League victory on a cold and windy afternoon. When reviewing the game, however, Carson coach Scott Vickrey didn't place the blame on just one play or one inning.
