CARSON CITY – The Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles has approved Google’s license application to test autonomous vehicles on Nevada public roads.

It is the first license issued in the United States under new laws and regulations that put Nevada at the forefront of autonomous vehicle development.

The caseload at the East Fork Township in Douglas County does not require an additional judge at this time, Justice of the Peace Tom Perkins has decided.
The announcement was made public in a news release sent Monday.
State law requires that an additional judge be added to the township when it reaches 34,000 in population. According to Nevada's demographer, the population of East Fork Township is 39,907. In a letter written to the Legislative Counsel Bureau, Judge Perkins said:

CARSON CITY – Nevada barely earned a C grade for its efforts in providing online access to government spending data with a score of 70, according to the latest report: “Following the Money 2012”, released this week by a national group.

The Carson City Sheriff's Department will be hosting a business academy beginning April 4, 2012 at 6 p.m. and running for six weeks. The course will be taking place in the Ormsby Room of the Carson City Sheriff's Office (911 E. Musser St.).

The aim of the class is to teach business owners and managers about the functions and workings of the sheriff's department as pertains to businesses. It is especially recommended to businesses in the casino, liquor, pawn, retail, restaurant, and auto repair industries.

CARSON CITY – Nevada voters can now be better informed than ever before with the Wednesday launch of Aurora, a user-friendly, searchable database for all campaign and public officer finance disclosures, Secretary of State Ross Miller said today.

Aurora, which can be accessed directly through the Secretary of State’s homepage, will provide a new level of insight into who is funding campaigns, and how those funds are being spent, he said.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Cold weather exercise has its drawbacks. Some of the drawbacks are mental. But a lot of them are physical. Cold stiff muscles don’t lend themselves to quick fitness and sports moves. A person’s range of motion also takes a big dip when it’s cold.

The human body functions best within a very narrow range of outside temperature, usually between 65 and 75 degrees with a humidity reading of about 45 percent. The further you get from this ideal temperature range, the harder it becomes for your body to compensate.

Casselman, who holds a Masters in Business Administration, started at Greater Nevada Credit Union in April 2003 as a Branch Manager and then served as Call Center Manager and Regional Manager before joining Greater Nevada Mortgage Services in May 2009 as Loan Servicing Manager.

CARSON CITY – Gov. Brian Sandoval has appointed Claudia Vecchio as the first director of the new Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. She will begin her job Nov. 14.
The newly constituted department is comprised of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, Division of Museums and History, Nevada Arts Council and the Nevada Indian Commission.

CARSON CITY – When Jeff Mohlenkamp decided to accept the job as Nevada’s newest budget director, he knew going in it was going to be a challenge.
The state’s economic slump continues to be a drag on funding government services, although gaming and sales tax revenues have shown some improvement in recent months.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — This is a reminder that if you enjoy fishing the waters of the State of Nevada, you might be interested in entering the 2011 Ormsby Sportsmen's Association annual fishing contest.
The contest is open to only OSA club members, it is still open and it will run until Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 24). It's inexpensive and if you're interested, here is some information:

Nevada’s jurists are well compensated in comparison to their counterparts in other states, according to a 2011 report by the National Center for State Courts (NCSC).

The Ormsby Sportsmen’s Association (OSA), a local sportsmen’s club for hunters and fishermen will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday evening, May 17 in the conference room at the Carson City Sheriff’s Office at 911 East Musser Street at 6:30 p.m.

Enter through the west side door. The evening’s guest will be Dave Catalano, a game specialist with the Nevada Department of Wildlife.

The State of Nevada announced today that it has reached agreements between the Nevada Division of Forestry (NDF) and Eureka County, Elko County and Clark County (Mt. Charleston) to continue to provide “all-risk” emergency services to these counties.

These services were scheduled to be transferred back to the respective counties June 30, 2012, per Gov. Brian Sandoval’s recommended budget now being considered by the Nevada State Legislature.

The Carson Fly Club will hold its regular monthly meeting on the first Wednesday of the month, May 4 at 7 p.m.
That meeting will be held at Fire Station No. 01 on Stewart Street.

CARSON CITY — The Legislature played host to a former director of the CIA yesterday, who came to voice support for a renewable energy bill.
James Woolsey, director of the CIA between 1993 and 1995, said the passage of the bill is a matter of national security.
Senate Bill 184 would establish a “feed-in tariff” program in Nevada, which would allow small-scale solar, wind, geothermal and other energy producers to “feed in” their energy to the grid.
