Heading into the weeknd, there’s a bevy of activities around the Carson City area. Lions Club kicks off its annual “White Cane Days” Saturday and Sunday in Carson City to increase awareness of the white cane traffic safety laws, and collect used eyeglasses for distribution to those in need. Updates and changes to school zones have arrived in the Carson City area.

School zones for Bordewich Bray, Carson Middle, Carson High, Eagle Valley, Empire, Fremont, Fritsch, Mark Twain, Pioneer High and Seeliger have been extended from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The installation of new signs and updated times is expected to be completed by the second week of October, 2020.

A vehicle accident was reported just after 4:30 p.m. Friday near the southbound on-ramp of I-580 at College Parkway.

Finalized data from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) show initial claims for unemployment insurance (UI) totaled 7,525 for the week ending September 26, down 673

claims, or 8.2 percent, compared to last week’s total of 8,198 claims. This is the lowest weekly total of initial claims filed since mid-March.

The Ghost Train is returning to Carson City from the dead. The Carson City Railroad Association, in partnership with Wild Horse Productions, will be reviving the yearly Halloween tradition of the Ghost Train at Mills Park in Carson City.

A 25-year-old Carson City woman was arrested Saturday in the 1600 block of Airport Road for misdemeanor suspicion of domestic battery after allegedly throwing oranges and a TV remote at the male victim and then twisting his private parts when he attempted to call for help.
