Multi-faith prayers to open Earth Day celebrations in Reno

A Multi-faith invocation will launch “Earth Day” celebrations in Reno on April 26. Religious statesman Rajan Zed will direct this special multi-faith invocation; which will include Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, Native American and Baha’i prayers focused on healthier environment and respecting the nature of the planet we live on.

This over 20-years old annual all-day (10 am to 6 pm) free event in Reno’s about 40-acres Idlewild Park is expected to attract over 20,000 people from all over the region in Nevada and nearby California.

28th Annual Derby Day presented by the Reno Chamber Orchestra

Support the Reno Chamber Orchestra at Reno’s original Derby Day on Saturday, May 2nd at 12 p.m. inside the Peppermill’s Tuscany Ballroom. Diner Night At Johnny Rockets Shows Huge Turn Out

For a decent five-hour span Wednesday, Carson High School hosted its third night time event of Winterfest week. Pertaining to the day's theme of "Way back Wednesday," the Senators hosted a diner night at Johnny Rockets.

The restaurant showcases a typical 1950's diner that tied in perfectly with the "Way back Wednesday" theme. The school received 10 percent of the total profits from everybody who attended and purchased food.

Venturing on Sierra ice to fish or skate

According to Webster’s Dictionary, “Ice is water frozen solid by cold.” Well, with the arrival of winter weather in this area, we certainly have plenty of water frozen on our creeks, streams, rivers, ponds, lakes and reservoirs.

A word of warning, however: None of the ice in Western Nevada is considered safe at any time in winter. If you want to ice fish, you're going to have to head into the Sierra or areas of Eastern Nevada where some lakes freeze over and are thick enough to hold people.

HopeFest free outdoor concert tonight to benefit local cancer patients

UPDATE: The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation is pleased to host HopeFest 2014, an outdoor concert tonight, Friday, offering free admission with all sales on food, drinks and raffle tickets directly benefitting local cancer patients.

Nationally famed folk-rock band, Antsy McClain and The Trailer Park Troubadours known for their cowboy jazz, Tex-Mex groove and soulful R&B dance tunes will be the headlining performers. The event runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Carson Tahoe Cancer Center located at 1535 Medical Parkway, Carson City.

Nevada celebrates Sesquicentennial with August event lineup

Many celebrations are scheduled throughout the Silver State in the month of August. These Nevada 150 events celebrate all things Nevada and help bring awareness to the 150th Anniversary of Statehood. The following events are held Aug. 15 through Aug. 31.

A Taste of Downtown Is a Taste of Success

The 21st annual Taste of Downtown kicked off Saturday evening and continued early into Sunday morning in Carson City. From Fifth Street on the event covered 13 city blocks, packing the sidewalks with locals and visitors. With restaurants and bars from near and far all setting up stands with the hopes of being voted Carson City's best, there was no shortage of food, drinks or fun in the thriving heart of downtown.

Outdoors with Don Q: Go ice fishing, catch a nice fish and win a trophy

Mark Saturday, Feb. 1 on your calendar to be a contestant in the annual ice fishing tournament at Davis Lake in Plumas County, Calif.

How to get there: Davis Lake is about 80 miles from Carson City by a combination of I-580 and
U.S. 395 north to Hallelujah Junction. At that junction, take California S.R.70 to the west and travel through Chilcoot, Vinton and Beckwourth toward Portola.

Merry Christmas to You and Yours from our cabin

A very merry Christmas to all of you from the Quilici cabin, which is located near Davis Lake, Calif.

The cabin is on a gravel road that the county does not plow in the wintertime, so when it snows, we have to snowshoe to reach it. It is our favorite location for spending Christmas every year.

HopeFest outdoor concert Friday in Downtown Carson City to benefit local cancer patients

The Carson Tahoe Health Foundation announces HopeFest 2013, an outdoor concert offering free admission with all sales on food, drinks and raffle tickets directly benefitting local cancer patients.

The outdoor event featuring the band Notch 8 takes place on Friday, October 4 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. outside of the Firkin & Fox restaurant on Third Street in Carson City. The event was rescheduled due to hazardous air conditions caused by the California Rim Fire.

Free multi-cultural Fall celebration Sunday at Fuji Park in Carson City

Carson Quarterly - High Tech, New Publication by Agency 36

On August 1st, a new publication called the Carson Quarterly (CQ) was delivered to the Carson City Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. The CQ is the first product presented by the new, downtown business, Agency 36.

GE Employees Come Together for Charity

The third annual Austinpalooza was a night of food, music and festivities that culminated in over $8,500 in funds raised for Austin’s House and the Society of Women Engineers at University Nevada, Reno. The event, organized by GE’s Measurement and Control employees in Minden, was held Friday, February 22, 2013, at Jethro’s Bar and Grill in Gardnerville, Nevada. Both charities rely heavily on support from partners, like GE, to sustain operations.

With the bitter January cold weather in the Sierra behind us, we do have plenty of water frozen on our creeks, streams, rivers, ponds, lakes and reservoirs. And that ice covering provides an excellent opportunity to catch fish.
Ice fishing is a unique sport that requires a whole different set of fishing techniques, gear and clothing, as opposed to lazy fishing on a warm, drowsy day in the middle of the summer. So, if you’ve never tried fishing through the ice, here’s some information that should be more than enough to get you “hooked” on this winter sport:
