Born March 30, 1969 to Michael and Judy Burnett in Inglewood, CA Joe moved to Nevada when he was 3 years old and was a Nevadan through and through from that day forward minus the birth right all he was missing was the title of Native Nevadan.

Rev. Dr. Gil Linsley was born in 1928 in Alhambra, California. He passed peacefully and aware into the next plane of existence on July 1, 2019 at South Lake Tahoe, Calif.

During his lifetime he had a successful career as a jazz trumpet player, water ski school owner and instructor, and Science of Mind minister. He had a love of water skiing which developed upon his move to Lake Tahoe in 1960 to play trumpet in the house bands at the casinos.

Obituary: Rev. Dr. Gil Linsley

Rev. Dr. Gil Linsley was born in 1928 in Alhambra, California. During his lifetime he had a successful career as a jazz trumpet player, water ski school owner and instructor, and Science of Mind minister. He had a love of water skiing which developed upon his move to Lake Tahoe in 1960 to play trumpet in the house bands at the casinos. He did trick and slalom skiing until he stopped at age 86.

JoAnne Skelly: We have apple trees that did not have blossoms this spring

A reader sent me a question. “We had an arborist trim our apple tree in March and this is the first year in at least 20 years that the tree had no blossoms. Is this situation common or did we do something wrong?” Neither of my apple trees had flowers this year either. I had assumed a late freeze had caused this because often my trees bloom, then there is a freeze and the flowers wither and die. However, this year there weren’t any flowers at all.

There's a morning Muscle Powered walk, plus the Nevada State Museum will host 2 behind the scenes tours in natural history and anthropology. Plus, the fourth annual Carson City Off-Road kicks off its three-day event with a Capital 15 Fun Ride and Free Clunker Crit Ride. Heading into the evening, “Newsies” will take stage at the Carson City Community Center and you can sit under the stars and watch “The Little Rascals” at 8 p.m. during movie night at John Mankins Park.

Come and join Rachael and Debbie Lambin of My Thousand Words this Saturday, June 29 as they teach you to make a beautiful flower vase that is both 3D as well as 2D.

Students will make paper flowers (3D) and paint a vase to put them in on a canvas lots of fun! The event is from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Western Nevada College's Carson City campus, second floor of the Aspen Building.

I bumped into my friend Cat at a nursery buying marigolds to solve a problem her lilacs were having. She said something was eating the leaves along the edges leaving sharp-edged cutouts. She said someone swore that marigolds planted around the base of the shrubs would solve the problem.

Heading into Father’s Day weekend, there's plenty of jam-packed activities around the Carson City region. There's Flag Day ceremonies at the Nevada Veterans Memorial and at the Elks Lodge. The Stewart Father’s Day Powwow happens Friday to Sunday and features hundreds of American Indian dancers, drummers artists and cultural enthusiasts. Lace up the tennis shoes for the Eastside Historical tour of the capital city hosted by Muscle Powered. Journey of Hope returns to Western Nevada College at 5 p.m. to settle into the evening. CARSON CITY — The Carson Farmers Market will kick off the 2019 season this Saturday, June 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the parking lot at 3rd and Curry streets. The Farmers Market will run until Saturday, Sept. 28.

Enjoy fresh-picked produce, local meats, fresh flowers, artisan baked goods, jams, honey, crafts, live music and Carson City’s smiling faces.

Carson City Memorial Day Service ceremony photos

Paying tribute to those who have died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, a Memorial Day ceremony was held at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City on Monday afternoon. The ceremony was hosted by the Memorial Day Flowers Foundation.

The Memorial Day Flowers Foundation is hosting a Memorial Day Service today, noon to 2 p.m. at Lone Mountain Cemetery in Carson City.

Among the order of service was a noon Raising of the Colors. The service will feature a presentation of the Colors by the Carson City Division of US Naval Sea Cadets, the National Anthem, Invocation. At around 1 p.m. there will be the introduction of speakers, U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, Sen. Jacky Rosen and U.S. Congressman Mark Amodei followed by A Memorial Day Tribute by the High Desert Post 56 All Veteran Honor Guard, closing remarks and a Benediction.
