Carson City Triad presents 'Be Red Cross Ready' this Tuesday

Carson City Triad hosts Be Red Cross Ready presented by the Northern Nevada American Red Cross Tuesday, July 16, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Carson City Senior Center, 911 Beverly Drive. The event is free and open to the public.

Carson City area weather: Thunderstorms likely in western Nevada and Sierra

Scattered thunderstorms were developing Sunday afternoon across the Sierra and Western Nevada, prompting a special statement by the National Weather Service.

Rapid snowmelt prompts flood warning for portions of the Walker River

The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a Flood Warning for the mainstem of the Walker River above Weber Reservoir. Flows along this portion of the river are expected to slowly rise this week and into the weekend in response to rapid snowmelt in the headwaters.

Hot weather expected through Wednesday will trigger the return to rapid melting of high elevation snowpack, that will produce increased flows in the higher elevation tributary streams and swift, cold flows for rivers and streams in the lower valleys by midweek from Lake Tahoe south through Mono County, according to the National Weather Service.

Carson City area weather: Rising temperatures prompt flood watch for south Lyon County

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for West Walker River from north of Sonora Junction in Mono County to southern Mason Valley in Lyon County from Tuesday evening June 11, 2019, until the threat has passed.

Parking at the Carson City Department of Motor Vehicles office will be noticeably impacted through the end of July as the second phase of a drainage and parking project begins Monday, June 3.

Is it March or May? Cold, windy and wet storms through Tuesday

An unusual and persistent weather pattern will send cold Pacific storms into the Carson City region Wednesday through early next week, a pattern that is more typical of early March rather than late May.

For Carson City and throughout western Nevada we can expect periods of rain and strong gusty winds and for the Sierra, heavy wet snow starting at around 8,000 feet and dropping to 6,000 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

Rising temperatures and rapid spring runoff has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Flood Watch for the Carson Valley near the West Fork of the Carson River from Thursday evening through late Saturday night.
