Former Nevadans leave Japan amid earthquake chaos

"The Verdict: We should go...David's company has asked us to fly to Hong Kong...we are leaving later this afternoon."

That is the latest Facebook wall post from a former Northern Nevada resident and her family living in Japan who have made plans to leave the beleagured country in the wake of the earthquakes and tsunami that left the island nation devastated.

Alyson Meidell Jenkins, 33, along with many other Americans, have made plans to leave Japan immediately.

State worker launches budget deficit plan, issues challenge to economists

Carl Kuhl, a state Parole and Probation employee of six years, has created a plan that he claims will eliminate Nevada's budget deficit within two years.

In a news release issued on Tuesday, Kuhl said his plan not only will reduce the budget deficit but also help repair Nevada's economy at the same time. It is a pretty big claim, he admits, coming from an Accounting Assistant I, an entry level position.

RENO, Nev. (AP) - Six girls have been arrested after students were invited on Facebook to take part in "Attack a Teacher Day" at two middle schools.

One girl was accused of inviting about 100 students on the social networking website to participate in the event Friday, and the other five were accused of responding with online threats against specific teachers, Carson Middle School Principal Dan Sadler said.

Teenager wanted in connection with stabbing apprehended

A teenage suspect wanted in the Sunday stabbing of a high school girl was apprehended near his home this morning, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong said.

Suspect John "Nubs" Linville, 17, was found in the East Carson City neighborhood of Surrey Lane at around 11:15 this morning. Witnesses were key to the boy's arrest, Furlong said, adding the boy gave up.

"I'm very pleased with the investigation," Furlong said.

More details emerge in Sunday teen stabbing; suspect remains at large

The following is from Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong regarding a stabbing on Sunday that resulted in a wounded teen girl and a father who was grazed by a bullet.

Suspect John Linville, 17, remains at large and is considered dangerous, Furlong said. The incident was reported at 9:47 p.m., on Sunday. Deputies were called to the 1500 block of Walker Drive following a dispute between two teens, Furlong said.
