‘The Mustang’ filmed at Carson City’s historic prison arrives in theaters March 15

A new movie that was filmed at the historic state prison in Carson City “The Mustang” starring veteran actor Bruce Dern and Matthias Schoenaerts, known for the Academy Award winning film “The Danish Girl” and Jennifer Lawrence’s “Red Sparrow,” will be hitting select theaters March 15.

International film festival hosted in renovated Carson City theater

Those who attend the sixth annual International Film Weekend in Carson City will get a glimpse into some of Nevada’s hidden treasures, as well as a look at cultures around the world.

“We hope people will see how we are all the same, underneath,” said chairwoman Linda Bellegray. “Our humanity is universal.”

Carson City Arts Initiative awarded $10,000 grant, part of $90,000 statewide total

The National Endowment for the Arts announced this week that it has awarded grants totaling $90,000 to seven arts organizations and agencies in Nevada for support in projects planned in fiscal year 2019. The Carson City Arts Initiave took home $10,000 for artist talks, art exhibits and more.

Carson City area students win national awards at 2019 Junior Theater Festival West

Students from Wild Horse Children's Theater in Carson City won a Freddie G Award for Excellence in Ensemble Work and earned other recognition at the 2019 Junior Theater Festival West held recently in Sacramento.

Tahoe Adventure Film Festival Feb. 23 in Minden

The Douglas High School Interact Club is bringing the Tahoe Adventure Film Festival to the Carson Valley on Saturday, February 23, 2019.

The festival will screen at the CVIC at 1604 Esmeralda Avenue in Minden with doors opening at 6 p.m. for the 7 p.m. showing. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students, and are available at the door. Refreshments will be available for purchase and a raffle will be held.

The Tahoe Adventure Film Festival is a fast-paced, high-energy evening of highlights from the best adventure sports films of the year.

Kermet Apio was the winner of the 2009 Great American Comedy Festival and has had numerous appearances on television and radio. He has showcased at comedy festivals in Aspen, Las Vegas, and Vancouver and has performed in 47 states and three Canadian provinces. He is a past winner of the Seattle Comedy Competition and was a semi-finalist in the San Francisco Comedy Competition.
