One motorist suffered minor injuries when he struck a wild horse, sending it through the windshield, killing the animal on impact.

Nevada wildlife department names biologist Clint Garrett employee of the year

The honor is to recognize significant achievements during the previous year toward the mission of the agency or the conservation, management, enhancement of wildlife in Nevada that are clearly above and beyond his or her normal duties. While “above and beyond” is in the description of the award, it doesn’t seem to cover what Garrett was able to accomplish.
Motorists along Old Highway 395 urged to use caution after recent crashes involving horses

On Friday morning, a motorist was taken to the hospital after a collision with a feral horse in the northbound lane of Old Highway 395 at Rawhide near Pagni Lane.

Highway 50 livestock fencing project begins
Submitted by editor on Tue, 08/04/2015 - 8:52amThe Nevada Department of Transportation will enhance traffic safety with a new project that began Monday by installing livestock fencing on sections of Highway 50 in Silver Springs.
The project will fence approximately four and a half miles of U.S. 50 between Boyer Lane and Pinto Street and from Onyx Street to the U.S. 95 Alternate intersection in Silver Springs. The four-strand, smooth wire fencing will stand four feet high to help prevent wild horses and cattle from entering the highway.

The reader went on to ask, “If this solution is as effective as Roundup and much cheaper, is there anything in the mixture that would/could be dangerous to humans?”

Work will occur from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day and detours will be in place. The JAC bus stop on Route 2A on Division Street just south of Sophia Street will be temporarily closed.

Community Group Seeking to Raise Funds for WNC Athletics

Both parties agreed conceptually to an agreement that would fund athletics through 2021, if new athletics fundraising goals can be met.
Nevada Agriculture officials address wild horse gatherings
Submitted by editor on Tue, 10/28/2014 - 10:04amConcerned about the recent uptick in wild horses in and around the Virginia Range south of Reno, state agriculture officials say they want the horses to remain in the wild as long as they aren't presenting a public risk. If there are problems, officials say they will gather the horses for adoption.
In a released statement, the Nevada Department of Agriculture says it receives complaints almost daily about horses in neighborhoods in and around the Virginia Range.

Mamma, baby bear surprise family at 2:59 a.m. in west Carson City

At 2:55 a.m. my husband was woken up to the sound of a distress call. The whimpering sound was right at the back door of our house. Michael went out onto our back patio to check out the commotion and he came face to face with a baby bear. As he turned around to come back in the house, I called the Carson City Sheriff's Office.

Deer Run Wild Horse Preservation Group at the Nevada Legislature

About 50 Carson City residents came together outside the Nevada Legislature today for a rally to raise awareness in the community for what has happened to the horses.
Coordinator Annie Jantzen says, "Even the Humane Society in Washington, DC is calling for the BLM to put these horses back on the range where they belong, and work with the community on solutions."

The mustang herd at issue travels between federal land in the Pine Nut Herd Management Area (HMA) and a rural area outside Carson City.
Sandoval Asks For Assessment Of School Security

Sandoval made the request as chairman of the state Homeland Security Commission, which met today by teleconference. A presentation will be prepared for the next meeting of the commission.
Comment sought on Fallen Leaf Lake trail access, travel management project
Submitted by Jeff Munson on Mon, 11/21/2011 - 10:37amThe U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is asking for public input on the proposed Fallen Leaf Lake Trail Access and Travel Management project. The project would improve the recreation experience for residents and visitors to the Fallen Leaf Lake area, while protecting the natural, cultural, and historic resources of the area.
The project area totals approximately 12,960 acres on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe and includes 41.8 miles of existing trails. The project boundary extends from Pope to Baldwin Beaches on the north end to the south and west ends of Fallen Leaf Lake.
