Dozens of Bently Nevada employees helped deliver Christmas to 11 Douglas County and Carson City families this week. The families were selected by the Ron Wood Family Resource Center based on their economic and social circumstances.

Family program at Dayton State Park: Desert Adaptations

Why do rabbits have large ears? What animal can live without ever taking a drink of water? Get to know Nevada’s wildlife during this fun family program at Dayton State Park. Rangers will display pelts from wildlife living along the Carson River and go for a short walk to look for wildlife in the park.

Family Fun Saturday: Beastly Encounters and Coyote Stories

A fun family program for all ages, designed to enhance awareness of animal behavior and habitats in Nevada and the role of animals in American Indian culture and storytelling. We will share coyote stories and allow children to participate using animal puppets depicting coyote, rabbit, and other favorites.

Jenni Jeffers will present “Owls in Nevada” from 1-2 pm, Saturday, March 8 at the Nevada State Museum’s Family Fun Saturday program. A biologist for the Nevada Department of Wildlife, Jeffers will bring some of the live owl species native to Nevada and explain their life history.

Tickets are available at 9 a.m. The museum will offer a science activity from 10 a.m. to noon in the Discovery Lab, that includes examples of bird’s nests, feathers and eggs, and an opportunity to dissect an owl pellet.

Lawmakers hear plea of mothers to save early child development program

A Nevada program designed to help parents with early childhood development is under threat of having much of its funding yanked, the Las Vegas Sun reports.
Scores of young mothers in Las Vegas and Carson City accompanied by noisy children pleaded today for the state to save the Family To Family program that has helped them deal with problems of early childhood. Click here to read the story.
