Carson City road construction report through Oct. 3

Here's the Carson City road construction report for the week of Monday, Sept. 27 to Sunday, Oct. 3. Be safe out there and remember, the snow's going to fly before you know it — as above, so below.

Because of continued Nevada Department of Transportation work on the freeway project through January 2011, Koontz Lane continues to be closed between Raglan Circle and Edmonds Drive. Meanwhile, the Roop Street widening project is continuing and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The following impacts are expected this week:

Utility Telephone to Acquire Minden-based WPTI Telecom

Utility Telephone, Inc. will acquire the customer base and network assets of Minden-based DSL and VoIP provider WPTI Telecom, LLC.

Under the terms of the agreement, Utility will acquire customers throughout the Reno, Carson City and Douglas-county markets, and will add a substantial DSL footprint to Utility’s existing Nevada network which includes a 2.5 Gigabit-per-second fiber-optic network linking Reno, Carson City and Fernley.

Carson City sheriff's candidate Bob Guimont names sergeant as his choice for undersheriff

Carson City candidate for sheriff Bob Guimont has selected Sgt. Darrin Sloan as his choice for undersheriff.

Sloan, 47, is a 20-year employee of the Carson City Sheriff's Office, four of those as a volunteer reserve officer and the past six as a sergeant both in the jail and on patrol. Prior to this was employed by the Carson City School District for nine years and served in the U.S. Army.

Carson City man arrested after allegedly punching girlfriend, urinating on living room floor

A Carson City man faces a gross misdemeanor domestic battery charge after he allegedly urinated and spit on his living room floor and then punched his girlfriend in the chest.

The 31-year-old unemployed man was booked on suspicion of second offense domestic battery and was jailed on $5,000 bail.

According to the arrest narrative, deputies were dispatched to the 2000 block of Hawaii Circle in reference to a report of a domestic battery.

Director Dianne Cornwall appointed Barratt to replace Scott Kipper, who stepped down as commissioner in June.
