Next Friday night, August 17, beginning at 6 p.m., the cool Carson City Community Center will be swinging as the hot USAF Band of the Golden West Commanders Jazz Ensemble performs tunes from some of the greatest swing bands of all times.

The second annual Carson City Fair brought local youth in agriculture, live music, home craft exhibitors, antique tractors and much more than last year. The fair provides a venue for local youth enrolled in 4-H, FFA and Grange to showcase their agricultural projects.

Welcome to Wednesday, Carson City. It’s another lazy, hazy day in Northern Nevada. You’ll want to keep your outdoor activities limited when the air is like this, but it understandably leads to a feeling of cabin-fever. Take the family out for dinner tonight at Firehouse Subs on Highway 50; they are raising funds for a local family recovering from a car accident. WEDNESDAY, August 8: Things to do in Carson City

It’s a funny thing being in the business of helping businesses through challenge. Once a client is through their challenge or transition, our work is done. This August, troves of visitors from all over will flock to the 83rd annual White Pine Fair and Horse Races Western festival in Ely, Nev. Eventgoers can expect the same thrills and nod to Western tradition at this jam-packed, three-day event that has taken place for decades.

Get ready for all things shiny, whether it be brass or chrome. You’ll find plenty of horns playing during the Jazz and Beyond Music Festival that kicks off today. Just about every event is free to the public and family friendly, so get ready for a melodic few weeks. The historic Bliss Mansion, across the street from the Governor’s Mansion, hosts the opening night Garden Party. Hot August Nights gets an early start in Virginia City with a show and shine and poker run; 400 classic cars are waxed up and ready to impress.

When business owners were asked in a survey what their most precious resource was, the pre-dominant answer was (drumroll please) PEOPLE. Relationships, partnerships, and contracts with people are a businesses’ most precious asset. So, if this is the case, why do with people fall through the cracks?

Time marches on. We’ve moved into August, meaning that the end of summer is in sight – even if the temperatures make that hard to believe. You’ll want to continue to take it easy, the smoke from the California fires makes for unhealthy air conditions. Stop by the Carson City Art Gallery this evening for a meet and greet with this month’s featured artist, wood-turner Dave Mills. He will also be demonstrating his craft. Food truck lovers won’t want to miss out on Wheeled Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center. Let someone else handle the cooking and enjoy some time mingling with your neighbors.

More than 6,000 vehicles will call the streets of Northern Nevada home for the 32nd Annual Hot August Nights festival. The 10-day celebration commences in the historic mining town of Virginia City this Friday and Saturday, Aug. 3-4.

Mr. Dangberg sold 1,000 subscription papers at $10 each to be used to construct a "large and commodious building" in Minden, Nevada called the Carson Valley Improvement Club.

Carson City native, Marybel Batjer’s job experiences have taken her to Washington DC, Nevada and California. She has worked in both the Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Yeah, it’s hot out there, but it’s the area happenings that are sizzling. The Carson City Fair at Fuji Park offers a plethora of entertainment for all ages including tractor pulls, a carnival, and farm animals. Under the shade of the Mills Park cottonwoods, you’ll have all day to peruse the varied vehicles in the annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The sun will come out tomorrow, but it’s the stars that are coming out tonight for the free Levitt Amp Concert at the Brewery Arts Center.

Friday morning started the Carson City fair's weekend, with events such as the popular dog show, the beginning of the silent auction, and the Youth Livestock competitions.

Ready for a good time? The Carson City Fair runs all day and culminates with a special concert in the arena starring Journey Unlimited. Car lovers are in for a treat: you can head down to the Carson Mall for their monthly cruise night, or roll into the Max Casino to get registered for the 33rd annual Run Whatcha Brung Car Show. The Trippin King Snakes take the stage in McFadden Plaza for a free all-ages show. Break a leg to the kids of Youth Theater Carson City; they open their production of ‘Bye, Bye, Birdie’ at the Community Center this evening.

It almost seems like the weekend is starting early, with all the great times offered today. The Carson City Fair is in full swing and will offer family-friendly fun through Sunday. The Carson City Fair returns today, Wednesday with good old fashioned hometown capital city fun, including livestock showings, carnival rides and games, eating contests, dunk tanks, a Day of Service, concerts and more.

It’s not lions and tigers and bears down at Fuji Park, it’s bunnies and chickens, lambs and calves. The Carson City Fair has returned and it’s bringing all the excitement that one can expect from a down-home event. The talented kids in our regional 4-H programs will be showing off their hard work, carnival rides will be whirling, and the music will be playing. Our local bus, the JAC, is lending a hand and offering free rides through Sunday: Route 3 will take you from downtown to Fuji Park. Food truck lovers won’t want to miss out on Wheeled Wednesday at the Brewery Arts Center.

Organizers of the annual Taste of Downtown in Carson City anticipated another sell-out year in 2018, and if the crowds along North Carson Street Saturday night were any indication, they may be right.

Nearly 50 members of the community gathered to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Carson City Cultural Commission on Friday at Bliss Mansion.
