We focus on strength, dynamic balance and stability, and muscular endurance (yes, that means cardio!) as they relate to winter sports and activities like snow-mobile excursions, snow shoeing, skiing and snowboarding, and all the Nordic and back country activities on your list.

It’s going to be a breezy weekend, so you may want to rethink spending the day at the lake. Luckily, plenty of options are available just about anywhere you are. Carson City has a car show and Brewfest hitting the downtown corridor, and to the south, Minden and Gardnerville are having their party of the year: Carson Valley Days. It’s World Doll Day at the Nevada State Museum with special displays, activities, and a special performance by the local Young Chautauquans.

Senator Square: CHS athletic event unlike any other

The CHS NJROTC Orienteering team participated in the California Orienteering Week held March 17-25, and this was the first time CHS has made it this far in competition.

WNFC Coyotes Earn 3 Points in Home Opener

During a chilly Saturday evening at Golden Eagle Regional Park the Western Nevada FC Coyotes earned 3 points with a win over California Victory FC. The match marked the Home Opener for the team who are now 1-0 at home and have a 2-0 record on the road during their league play in the Wild West.

UPDATE MONDAY 5:40AM: A late spring storm blasted the Sierra with snow this morning, forcing chain or snow tire requirements over Highway 50 Spooner, State Route 207 over Kingsbury Grade, State Route 431 over Mt. Rose Highway and I-80 over Donner Pass. Go here for an update on area road conditions related to the storm. The National Weather Service forecast calls for the skies to be clearing by tonight with a gradual warming trend this week.

Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Training Run

The Tahoe Mountain Miler running club will be hosting a training run for the up coming Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs. This training run will take place Sunday June 11th starting at 7:00AM at the Western Nevada College parking lot in Carson City.

The trails are are permitted by Carson City Parks and Recreation & Open Space Department and the Humbolt-Toiyabe USFS.

Senator Square: Peter Garrett goes All-American

Every high school athlete’s dream: to be named an All-American in their sport. To do this, one would have to participate in an organized All-American game.

For Carson High senior Peter Garrett, his soccer dreams are being lived in early December, when he will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina, from the 1-4.
